Aim: To provide an overview of the Arduino platform, its components, and how to program it.
Apparatus:
Hardware: Arduino board.
Software: Arduino IDE, libraries, programming language, complier.
Theory:
Arduino board Description:
Arduino is an open-source platform for building electronic projects. It consists of a microcontroller

(ATmega328P in the case of Arduino Uno) and a software development environment (Arduino IDE)
that is used to write and upload code to the microcontroller.
The microcontroller on the Arduino board is programmed using C++ language, which is a high-level
programming language that is easy to learn and use. The Arduino IDE provides a simplified interface
for writing code, and includes a library of functions and examples that can be used to quickly build
projects. The Arduino board has digital and analog input/output pins, which can be used to connect
sensors, actuators, and other electronic components. The board can be powered using a USB cable, a
battery, or an external power supply.
Arduino programming involves writing code that defines how the microcontroller interacts with the
sensors, actuators, and other electronic components. The code can be used to read sensor data, control
the state of the actuators, and process data from other sources. In addition to the hardware
components, Arduino has a large and active community of developers and enthusiasts who share code
and ideas on forums and websites.

Parts of Arduino/Hardware components of the Arduino:
a) Microcontroller - The brain of the Arduino board, responsible for processing instructions and
controlling the hardware.
b) Digital I/O pins - These pins can be used to read or write digital signals (0 or 1).
c) Analog I/O pins - These pins can be used to read or write analog signals (values between 0
and 1023).
d) Power pins - Used to supply power to the board and connected components.
e) USB port - Used to connect the Arduino board to a computer for programming and power.
Reset button - Used to reset the microcontroller.
f) Crystal oscillator - Provides timing for the microcontroller.
g) Voltage regulator - Regulates the voltage supplied to the microcontroller.
h) LED - Indicates the power status of the board.
Software components of the Arduino platform include:

a) Arduino IDE: The Arduino IDE (Integrated Development Environment) is a software
application that allows you to write and upload code to the Arduino board. It provides a
simplified interface for writing code, and includes a library of functions and examples that
can be used to quickly build projects.
b) Libraries: Arduino libraries are collections of pre-written code that can be used to perform
common tasks, such as reading data from sensors or controlling actuators. There are many
libraries available for Arduino, and they can be easily downloaded and added to your project.
c) Programming language: Arduino code is written in C++, which is a high-level programming
language that is easy to learn and use.
d) Compiler: The Arduino IDE includes a compiler that translates your code into machine
language that can be executed by the microcontroller on the Arduino board.
