SUMMER HOLIDAY ASSIGNMENT


Please note that this task is designed to engage our learners’ within the remaining holidays; in preparation for an effective
and motivating 2023/2024 academic session. It is another opportunity to spend quality time together with your kids/wards
before resumption at school.

Kindly allow your child/ward take the lead and use his/ her imagination, creativity and knowledge to do the assigned task.
Your role is to be a facilitator and guide to steer the child in the right direction.

1. Write a short story of 100 words. (In your Assignment notebook).
2. Read daily newspapers from today Friday 25th August, 2023. Write five news headlines. Write out five unfamiliar
words to you, their meanings and make sentences of these five words. (In your Assignment notebook).

SUBJECT: MATHEMATICS
1. With the help of the internet, record the temperature of major cities as Port-Harcourt, Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Enugu,
Ibadan, kaduna, Calabar, Jos and Owerri. of 1st week of August, 2023.
(a) Find the average temperature of each city
(b) Find the difference in temperature of: (i) Port-Harcourt and Kano (ii) Ibadan and Jos (iii) Owerri and Kaduna.
2. Imagine yourself as a team leader for your team. School rewards for discipline, regularity, punctuality and for being
honest.
(a) What is the amount you will reward for each category?
(b) What fraction of your total amount is rewarded for each category? Write your priority in descending order.

which we are using as well as in English language.

1. Search in Google and find the names of polygons having 11 sides, 12 sides------up to 20 sides. Put this information in
form of a Bar chart.
2. Solve any 5 activity. (Read activity instruction carefully and use A4 size paper or graph paper to solve it).
List of activity:-
(i). To verify the algebraic identity: (a+ b+ c)2 = a2 + b2 + c2 + 2ab + 2bc + 2ca
(ii) To verify experimentally the different criteria for congruency of triangles using triangle cutouts.
(iii) To verify that the sum of the angles of a triangle is 180º.
(iv) To verify experimentally that in a triangle, the longer side has the greater angle opposite to it.
(v) To form a cube and find the formula for its surface area experimentally.
(vi) To find a formula for the curved surface area of a right circular cylinder, experimentally.
(vii) To find experimental probability of unit’s digits of telephone numbers listed on a page selected at random of a
telephone directory.

1. Collect different kinds of plastic materials at your home and classified them in thermoplastic and thermosetting
categories and write in your assignment notebook.
2. Imagine you are a dietician prepare a diet chart of yourself. While preparing the chart keep in mind the concept of
balanced diet. (Write in your assignment notebook)
3. Draw a neat and clean labeled diagram of any four external hardware devices and write the uses of each of them.
4. What is the role of the following in their call to service of God and humanity in Israel?

1. You want to sell your house at 15 Basic Street, G.R.A Phase II, Port-Harcourt, Rivers state. Draft an advertisement in
not more than 50 words, giving the necessary details, to be published in the classified columns of ‘The Punch
Newspaper.
2. Assuming you are a social activist. Design a poster to observe ‘Wildlife Protection Week’ in your city, in 50 words.

SUBJECT: MATHEMATICS
1. Project work: - To draw the graph of a quadratic polynomial and observe:
(a) The shape of the curve when the coefficient of x2 is positive.
(b) The shape of the curve when the coefficient of x2 is negative.
(c) The shape of the curve when the equation is not consistent.
(d) The shape of the curve when the equation has equal roots.
(e) The shape of the curve when the equation has unequal roots.
Material required:
Graph Paper, Ruler, Pencil, Eraser, Pen, Adhesive.
Hints:
Take different type of quadratic equation as; (a) if coefficient of x2 is positive, then we can take an equation as 2x2 + 3x - 5 = y,
now put the different values of x and get the value of y and draw the graph.

1. Effectiveness and Efficiency are two sides of the same coin but both differ in terms of orientation .How?
Hints:
Coin= Company’s Goal, Two sides = Effectiveness and Efficiency, Both has same purpose i.e. to achieve the co. objective
and both depends on each other to attain company’s goal. [Not less than 100 Words]
2. Write on “the impact of FUEL-SUBSIDY removal on the Nigerian economy”.
3. What is the Circular Flow of Income? Explain with diagram.
4. Prepare a detailed report on “The recent developments in Nigerian Politics vis-à-vis the rise of Popular Movements.
5. Draw a political map of Nigeria and locate all its neighbouring countries, sea, island, and mountain peaks.

1. Collect the damaged printed circuit boards (PCB) of different electronic devices/electrical devices. See the components
used on it. Are you not ever curious about that?
(a) What are they?
(b) What are their names?
(c) What type of function do they do?
So for getting all these answers, match the figures with the internet search and name it. If any number is given on it then
type it on internet and see what name appears there. Draw the figures of it on paper and write the name and function of it.
If possible, you can stick them on the page.
2. “All plants give out oxygen during day and carbon dioxide during night”. Do you agree with this statement? Give reason.
3. Two green plants are kept separately in oxygen free containers, one in the dark and the other in continuous light. Which
one will live longer? Give reasons.
4. If a plant is releasing carbon dioxide and taking in oxygen during the day, does it mean that there is no photosynthesis
occurring? Justify your answer.
5. Why should water be never added drop-wise to concentrated Sulphuric acid?
6. Name the products formed in each of these cases;
(a) Hydrochloric acid reacts with caustic soda.
(b) Granulated Zinc reacts with caustic soda.
(c) Carbon dioxide is passed into lime water.
7. Why does hydrogen chloride gas not show acidic behavior?
