The Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course
Mission: 2-11th Infantry Regiment (IBOLC) trains and develops Infantry Lieutenants to
become mentally, physically, and morally fit leaders who are prepared to lead Infantry
Platoons and win.
Course Purpose: IBOLC trains Infantry Officers to be Competent and Confident
leaders of Character who are Qualified and Ready to Lead Platoons in Combat.
Course Scope: The scope of this course is to develop Infantry Officers capable
of effective Communication, Critical Thinking, and Decision Making under Stress, and
Proficient at the Fundamentals of Maneuver through the lens of Infantry Tactics.
Outcomes Fundamentals
1) Character – The officer has the strength of
character to serve as the moral compass for the Leadership
small units they will lead.
2) Competence – The officer is able to conduct Tactics
Troop Leading Procedures and Battle Drills.
3) Confidence – The officer leads from the front in
fitness, communication, and critical thinking. Fitness

Excellent physical fitness is the best way to prevent injury, as well as healthy personal habits
like hydration, diet, and sleep. The best medicine is prevention!
#2 – Physical Events (27% of our Recycles)

Work out! IBOLC is physically demanding, and you should be ready to pass the minimum
physical requirements before you arrive. Focus on distance running (5 miles in 40 minutes),
Ruck Marching (12 miles in three hours with 35lbs) and strength (ACFT).
You are responsible for your physical fitness!
#3 – Land Navigation (14% of our Recycles)

Excellent physical fitness helps, practice land nav as much as you can! Familiarity with map
and compass reading, terrain association, and pace count are critical.
