PART B SECTION 1: QUESTION 1,4,8,9 and 12
Name four Computer Characteristics.
Speed: Time required to solve or deal with a problem.
Storage: Computers contain a place to keep data.
Memory: Computers can remember data
Logic: They always need instructions to operate.
Define in brief the terms CPU, RAM and SSD
CPU: The central Processing Unit is the mind of the compute. Its main function is to
carry all the commands sent to it by applications and bring back results.
RAM: The Random-Access Memory makes work easy for the compute. Each time a
computer starts it loads data from the hard disk into the Ram since it transfers data
much faster than the hard drive.
SSD: The solid-state drive stores data in a computer for the longer term. It is preferred
than the hard disk since it is faster, lighter and more efficient.
What is what we call Unshielded Twisted Pair cable (UTP) and what is shielded Twisted
Pair Cable (STP) and define three of their differences.
Unshielded Twisted pair cable and shielded Twisted pair cables are all twisted pair
cables that are twisted with the intention of canceling out electromagnetic
interference (EMI) from other wire pairs and external sources.
Shielded Twisted Pairs Unshielded Twisted Pairs
STP cables are shielded. UTP cables are unshielded.
They are more immune to interference They are less immune to interference
and noise. and noise.
STP cables cost more per meter. UTP cables cost less per meter.
What is an Email and hat are its advantages
An email is one of the common ways to send and receive messages on the internet.
An email has a lot of advantages and some of them include
Easy access to web services: One can use an email to give an address to an
online shopping store like Amazon in order to be easily identified and contacted
Privacy: The email is safe and private as you will always need a password to
access it.
Easy accessibility: An email can be accessed anywhere and at any time.
What are the two things you need to create a website
A Domain Name: This is the web address inn other words a person will access your
page by typing this name.
Web Hosting: This is a service that puts your website on the internet. It acts as a
renting space.
PART B SECTION 2: QUESTION 1 and 2
What is system software and what is application software define some of their
differences.
Software is a set of guidelines and instructions that tells the hardware what to do. Unlike the
hardware the soft where cannot be touched. This sift ware is divided into two parts namely
system (operational)software and application software. System software are instructions that a
made by programmers to make the hard ware usable while the application software are
instructions made by the programmers which do something useful to end users.
Differences between system software and application software
Key System software Application software

Installation A system software can only be Application software is
installed on a computer when installed at anytime and for
the operating system is any reason in other words its

User interaction System soft ware only In application software there

application.
Dependency A system soft ware can run Application software cannot

operation of the application the system software.
software.
Examples Examples of the system Examples of application
software includes debugger, software includes media
driver, assembler etc. player, web browser, excel
etc.
In short both system and application software are useful parts of a computer as a whole as they
are special and unique in their own ways and the differences given above can explain that.
What is database management system?
A database management system is an instrument in a computer that allows the user to organize,
store, and retrieve data of the computer. Data is found in a database in other words databases are
containers of data. Therefore, these containers need a system to organize and control them that
bis why we have a database management system (DBMS). How easy it is for us to create, update
or delete a file in a computer. Actually, it is all made easy because of the DBMS. The DBMS is an
interface between the database and us the end users always running and making sure data is
organized and easily accessed. The BDBS manages three important activities and they are as
follows
Data from the database
The database engine that allows data to be accessed and locked
The database scheme which is responsible for defining the database logical structure.
In short without the database management system data would be difficult for end users and
applications to access and use. It could be disorganized and controlled if it were coming straight from
the database. The DBMS has the power and ability to show end users the amount of data to view and
why they should view data a not be in response to exactly what the end user is looking for.
