Reflection Intouchables

The document discusses the film "Intouchables" and the relationship between the two main characters, Driss and Philippe. Driss comes from a disadvantaged background while Philippe comes from privilege. They are changed by their relationship, with Philippe learning to embrace life and find joy again, and Driss becoming more compassionate and developing ambitions. Fiction can be a useful way to acquire knowledge by providing cultural and emotional insights to develop understanding, though humor must be used carefully with complex topics to aid rather than hinder comprehension.

1. Why do you think this film is called "Intouchables"?

I think the movie is called "Intouchables" because it makes reference

to the different social class Driss and Philippe come from. There is a
huge gap between Philippe privileged background and Driss’
disadvantaged background. Therefore, Phillipe is in an unattachable
position, one which Driss cannot reach.
2. This film uses stereotypes to describe/develop its characters.
Mention at least 2 stereotypes that apply to Driss and 2 that
apply to Phillipe. In your opinion, up to what point are they
realistic?
Driss: criminal and rebel
Phillipe: snob and harsh
The four stereotypes are realistic to the point in which they are useful
to the development of the plot and each character. They are useful as
both characters are antonyms and complimentary and both of them
learn something new from each other.
3. In what ways are both of these characters changed by their
relationship? Mention 3 examples for each
Phillipe:
1. Driss teaches him how to embrace life despite his physical
condition
2. Driss teaches him the value of genuine friendly relationships and
the positive impact it can have on one’s life
3. Throughout the relationship, he becomes more open, rediscovers
joy and a sense of adventure
Driss:
1. Initially he had 0 responsibilities, throughout his relationship with
Phillipe he starts to take his caregiver job seriously. He learns to
prioritize others and becomes more compassionate.
2. He develops new ambitions and goals thanks to Phillipe as he
exposed Driss to art.
3. He becomes more empathic which not only affects his
relationship with Phillipe but also with his community and family
4. Think of at least one thing that you think is applicable from this film
for our CAS experiences. Explain as clearly as possible.
I think it is applicable for life as it teaches you how a disabled person is
able to overcome his difficulties and embrace life to its fullest and enjoy
it.
5. Up to what extent is fiction a useful way to acquire knowledge?
Fiction is a useful way to acquire knowledge as it provides insights into
emotions, cultural contexts, moral dilemmas and fosters empathy and
perspective. It offers unique benefits that complement non-fictional
sources in developing a well-rounded understanding of the world.
6. Does humor aid or hinder our understanding of complex topics?
Humor can aid our understanding of complex topics by engaging and
simplifying concepts, easier to retain, and creates emotional
connection. However, inappropriate humor or oversimplification can
hinder comprehension and distort important details. It's crucial to
strike a balance between humor and accuracy for effective
communication.
