Tourism Development Plan for Forest
Camp in Valencia Negros Oriental
(2024-2027)
INTRODUCTION
Valencia Forest C a m p Mountain Resort is a n expansive property in the foothills of Valencia, with
its natural beauty blended into the green jungle surroundings it comprises. The water is
c hem i c a l -free, naturally p u m p e d out of the river that flows across the grounds. This 5-hectare
land is a forest paradise and we want to promote sustainable practices to maintain the beauty
of forest camp, such as waste reduction strategies, recycling programs, and proper disposal of
waste. Encouraging every visitor to minimize their environmental impact. Investing in
renewable energy sources such as solar or wind power and implementing visitor management
and establishing visitor quotas to prevent overcrowding and degradation of natural resources.
By integrating these eco-friendly practices, Forest Camp can contribute to the long -term
preservation of its natural resources while providing a unique and educational experience for
visitors.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Valencia Forest Camp was established in 1995. The name "Forest Camp" comes from the word "forest"
because it is located in Valencia Negros Oriental's hills and resembles a camping area by the forest.
Before forest camp became well -known, it was only a privately owned 2.3 -hectare property located 11.5
kilometers from the provincial capital Dumaguete City, in the isolated hamlet of Valencia, Negros
Oriental, along the Banica River's curb. Due to its naturally cool environment and lush surrounding
areas, Valencia soon gained prominence as a weekend vacation destination for families.
As soon as information spread, Friends, family, and even random individuals began to inquire about
visiting the location. That's what made the Vicuñas decide to give it a shot, starting with only a few
shelters for picnics suitable for a family or group of friends. They constructed a utility kitchen and two
more cottages with the money they made. Florante and Melba Vicuña never imagined that their
property would develop into a popular tourist attraction and an industry standard in the Negros
Oriental tourism industry.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The couple ran the camp and handled its management together. Their housemaids took care of the
cleaning and serving, while they were cooking. They soon develop the necessary skills to become
courteous and efficient waiters. Forest Camp was gaining popularity quickly and enormous numbers of
people were flocking to experience what it's like to stand next to a waterfall, feel its waves, and
actually hear them. A swinging bridge that connects the picnic area with the reception area is located
in the center of the camp.
There are family homes for overnight visitors, five little huts perfect for picnics, a function hall, two
natural pools, a waterfall, and a lovely garden with landscaping. An area is being cleared for the
construction of new cottages, and another natural pool is being constructed. The Vicuñas refer to this
process of expansion using income from already -existing infrastructure as "sustainable development."
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Since bamboo and nipa are both low -cost native materials that are readily available
throughout the province, these were the only materials utilized to build the cottages in order
to reduce costs. The huts' architecture has maintained the feeling of the original people; it is
modeled after traditional Filipino homes. The starting fee for using the hut for half a day is
350 pesos.
