Slickline Intervention Checklist

Pre-Job Issues

 Ensure that there is an approved programme and its contents are

understood.

 Ensure that there is an approved AFE with costs of job cost control.

 Verify that all regulatory and government permits are issued and on board.

 Verify that the third parties services have been notified.

 Verify any heavy lifts

 Verify that the OIM and relevant production personnel have been notified to
shut in the well and/or facilities. (Permit to Work process)

 Verify the requirement for support vessels, i.e. barges, supply boats, crew
boats, tugs, helicopters.

 Hold a Toolbox meeting to discuss the operation and safety issues with the
relevant personnel.

 Ensure that the programme has been reviewed with the contractor.

 Ensure a drawing of rig up and lubricator-testing procedures is included in

program.

 Verify the wind direction and how gas will be vented during flow back/bleed-
off.

 Ensure that the contractor personnel have the required experience and
training of the operation of their equipment.

 Ensure that all personnel have the required training certificates (well control,
first aid, offshore certification, etc)

 Verify that the Xmas tree (master valves, swab valve) was inspected and
pressure tested prior to arrival.

 Verify that the master valves hold for the rig up.

 Confirm the connection on the Xmas tree where the SL unit will rig up.

 Ensure that the weather forecast prior to rig up is favorable.

 Verify if there is H2S or CO2 in the formation fluids.

 Verify the existence or anticipation of any scale, paraffin, asphaltenes,

hydrates, fish in the well bore.

 Ensure that there is a well history available showing past work and current
down-hole status of the well.

 Verify the pressure is expected at surface and at bottom hole.

 Verify the rig-up required and confirm whether there is any work in open
hole.

 Confirm the weight and dimensions of the slickline unit and suitable space for
its placement.

 Verify if a centralizer is needed in tool string.

 Ensure that there is radio communications between the wireline unit and rig
floor.

 Review the program and compare it to the equipment list to ensure that all
required equipment is on board prior to start of the job, including the back-
ups.

 Ensure that fishing necks are known and fishing tools are available on
location prior to running any tool in hole.

 Ensure that all of the components of the BOP/lubricator system are on board.
Refer to the equipment list. Verify the pressure rating of each component
and confirm that it has a compatible flange for the wellhead. Ensure all is
pressure tested and recorded prior to use.

 Check the condition of all the slickline equipment, including the back-up
equipment. An inspection of all equipment should be done prior to delivery of
equipment to location.

 Ensure that a gauge to monitor pressure is installed.

 Ensure a method to bleed of trapped pressure is rigged up.

 Ensure slickline unit is capable 0f monitoring depth, tension and speed.

 Know the maximum tension that can be applied to the diameter of slickline in
use.

 Ensure that a go-devil is available if needed. Do not rely on pulling out of the
socket.

 Ensure that the slickline unit has a braking system with a minimum capacity
equal to the cable breaking strength.

 Ensure that slickline unit has a drive system capable of holding load in
neutral.

 Ensure riser/lubricator is secured for lateral support.

 Ensure sufficient illumination is available in the work area.

 Ensure that slickline working area is secure.

Slickline Operation

 Verify the functions that will be done with the slickline to ensure that the
programme is suitable and that the equipment is fit for purpose.

 Ensure to hold a Toolbox meeting prior to every slickline run into the well to
discuss the previous operation, the planned operation and the relevant safety
issues.
