Objective of the course:


 To learn the algebra and geometry of complex numbers, mappings in the complex
plane.
 To understand the fundamentals concepts of numeric methods.

Course Outcome:
Upon completion of the course, students shall be able to:
 CO1: Perform basic mathematical operations (arithmetic, powers, roots) with
complex numbers in Cartesian and polar forms and find continuity, differentiability
and analyticity of a complex function.
 CO2: Determine the Line integral, Taylor series, Laurent series, Zeros and Poles of
complex functions.
 CO3: Construct conformal mapping by elementary complex functions and different
types of transformations.
 CO4: Evaluate roots of equations and linear algebraic equations by various
numerical methods.
 CO5: Understand the difference formulas of various numerical techniques.
 CO6: Compute the numerical solution of ordinary differential equations and
integrations.

Analytic functions, Cauchy-Riemann equations, , Laplace equation,
Harmonic functions,Conjugate Harmonic functions, Elementary
functions.
Unit – II
2 Complex Integration and Theory of residues: 12
Line integral in complex plane, Cauchy integral theorem, Cauchy
integral formula, Complex sequences and power series, Taylor
series, Laurent series, Zeros and Poles, Residue, Reside theorem,
Evaluation of real integrals.

3 Conformal mapping: 6
Conformal mapping, Conformal mapping by elementary functions,
Transformation : 𝑤 = 𝑧𝑛 , Transformation :𝑤 = 𝑒 𝑧 ,
Transformation : 𝑤 = 𝑠𝑖𝑛 𝑧, bilinear Transformation.
Unit – IV
4 Roots of equation and linear algebraic equation: 9
Bisection and Secant methods, Newton- Rapshon method, Rate of
convergence, Power method for computation of Eigen values,
Solution of a system of linear equations: Implementation of
Gaussian elimination and Gauss-Seidel method, partial pivoting.

Finite differences, Interpolation, Newton-Gregory interpolation
formula, Central differences, Stirling interpolation formula,
Lagrange’s interpolation, Divided differences, Newton’s divided
differences formula.

6 Ordinary differential equations and Numerical integration: 9
Numerical solution of ordinary differential equations, Euler and
Runge-Kutta methods, Composite rules, error formulae, Gaussian
integration.
