John Deere Standards are intended for use by Deere & Company, its divisions and subsidiaries. Suppliers who rely on them in furnishing products to or for
the benefit of the Company must determine that they are in possession of the latest version. Distribution of the standards to parties other than John Deere
Suppliers, whether with or without charge, are for information only and Deere & Company disclaims all responsibility for results attributable to the application
of or compliance with such standards. The Company makes no representation, express or implied, that conformity ensures compliance with applicable law or
other rules or regulations. Further, those who are in receipt of and elect to use the standards, agree to assume the responsibility for compliance with patents, as
well as potential patent infringement.
As processed
Samples collected at the supplier’s manufacturing facility after coating with the production intent
material using production equipment and processes.
Test Specimen
Production part or surrogate part as agreed between the supplier and John Deere, coated with
the production intent material using production equipment and processes.
3 Summary of Method
In the case of liquid chemicals, the test specimens are saturated with the liquid chemical. In the
case of dry chemicals, the test specimens are saturated with water and the dry chemical is
applied to coat the specimen’s surface. The test specimens are then allowed to sit for a minimum
of48 hours, then are pressure washed and examined for evidence of coating degradation such
as white corrosion products, white haze, red rust, blistering, flaking, appreciable color change or
other deterioration.
Table 1 lists the chemicals available for JDKK 104 evaluation. In the event JDKK 104 is
specified for a test specimen without designating the chemical(s) to be tested, testing of all
chemicals on the list shall be assumed.

5 Procedure
5.1 Obtain 5 test specimens per chemical to be tested (60 specimens if all 12 chemicals are to
be tested) plus an additional 10 (total 70).
Liquid chemicals are diluted to a concentration equivalent to the maximum application rate at a
93.5 l/ha spray rate or the minimum spray rate per label instructions, whichever is greater. The
3
JDKK 104
chemical solution is applied at an initial test temperature of 4°C to 38°C, sprayed on the
specimens to completely coat them until the excess solution drips off the specimens.
Dry chemical particles should be small enough to pass through a No. 120 (125 µm) sieve per
ASTM E11. Some dry chemicals may require processing to produce particles that will pass
through the sieve. At an initial test temperature of 4°C to 38°C, the specimens are completely
wetted with deionized water and the dry chemical is applied so that the surface of the
specimens are uniformly coated.
After the 48 hour test period, the specimens are pressure washed (11 MPa washer with 30°
fan nozzle held 150-400 mm from the specimen surface) and examined for evidence of
coating degradation, such as white corrosion products, white haze, red rust, blistering, flaking,
appreciable color change or other deterioration. Four of each group of five specimens must
pass.
7.1.2 Employees of suppliers with an approved John Deere supplier number can obtain access
to John Deere Standards via the JD Supply Network (JDSN). Access to JDSN is by approved
individual name and password. Suppliers should contact their Supply Management
representative with questions about JDSN.
Note 2: Only John Deere Standards which have been approved for supplier distribution are available via JDSN.
7.2.2 Suppliers are responsible for obtaining relevant external standards. In accordance with
copyright laws and Company policy, John Deere personnel shall not provide copies of these
standards to suppliers.
