Levels
1.Identify and name family members.
2.Use plurals correctly when referring to more than one person.
3.Recognize naming words (nouns) related to family.
Description
Engage •Begin with a discussion about family. Ask students questions like, “Who is in your family?” and “What do we call people in a
family?”
•Show pictures of family members (e.g., mother, father, sister, brother). Encourage students to name them aloud.
•Ask: “If there is more than one brother, what do we call them?” Introduce the concept of plurals.
Exploration •Give students flashcards with pictures of different family members and their names (both singular and plural forms:
mother/mothers, sister/sisters).
•In pairs, have students match the singular and plural forms of the family members and practice saying them aloud.
•Discuss when we use singular (one person) and when we use plural (more than one person).

Explanation •Write the words “Naming Words” on the board. Explain that naming words are words that name people, places, or things, like
father, mother, family, etc.
•Write the singular and plural forms of family members on the board: father/fathers, sister/sisters, etc.
•Explain the rule for making plurals (usually by adding -s). Use the family member examples to show how it works.

Elaborate •Ask students to create their own “My Family” chart on a piece of paper.
•They will write the singular and plural forms of their family members and draw pictures if they like. For example:
•1 mother (Singular)
•2 sisters (Plural)
•Students can share their family charts with a partner or in small groups.

Evaluate •Hand out a worksheet where students fill in blanks with either the singular or plural form of family-related naming words.
•For example:
•I have two ____ (brother/brothers).
•My ____ (mother/mothers) loves cooking.
•Review the answers together and check understanding.
