CL 511: Petroleum Reservoir Engineering, 2023
Assignment: 2 Due Date: 17th November 2023
Problem 1: A saturated oil reservoir is subjected to waterflooding immediately. Core analysis
tests indicate that the initial and residual oil saturations are 75 and 30%, respectively. Assuming
that Bo will remain constant until the end of the flood, determine the maximum displacement
efficiency that can be achieved.
Problem 2: For a single-phase fluid of viscosity 1.2 cP flowing through a homogeneous
and isotropic porous media with permeability of 40 md, the diffusivity equation is given
2 p 1 p p
by, 0.00034 (Time t is expressed in hours).

Determine the porosity of the porous media. Take ct = 12×10-6 psi-1
Problem 3: A well is tested by producing it at a constant rate of 1500 stb/d for a period
of 100 hours. The reservoir data and flowing bottom hole pressures recorded during the
test are detailed below.
h = 15 ft c = 15×10-6 psi-1
rw = 0.25 ft µo = 1 cP
ϕ = 0.18 Bo = 1.20 rb/stb

Consider that the outer boundary effect begins after flowing time of 4 hours. Assuming
the wellbore storage effect is not significant, calculate the permeability and skin factor of
the formation.
Problem 4: Consider a linear reservoir system with the following properties:
Dip angle = 0 Absolute permeability = 50 mD
Bo = 1.20 bbl/STB Bw = 1.05 bbl/STB
ρo = 45 lb/ft3
ρw = 64 lb/ft3
µw = 0.5 cp µo = 1 cp

Cross-sectional area A = 25000 ft
Calculate the fractional flow (fw) and Mobility ratio (M) for the relative permeability
values for oil and water as 0.37 and 0.10, respectively.
