(b) Range
(i) Max range 3000m – 3040m
(ii) Min range 200m

(c) Flexibility
82 mm Mortar can give fire support while being traversed through
6000 mills at the range of 3040m without changing base plate posn.

(d) Visibility
82mm Mor can be used to give fire Sp in all weather condition,
rainy, sunny day or night provided precautionary measures are
observed

(e) Fire Potential

The wpn 82mm mor can use three types of bombs:-
(i) HE Bombs.
(ii) Smoke Bombs.
(iii) Illuminating bombs.

(f) Fragmentation
On explosion the fragmentation of 82mm bomb kills within the
radius of 20m and inflict injuries up to a radius of 100m.

(g) Time of Flight

Flying time of 82 mm bomb, range from 0 - 27 sec depending on
the amount of charge and the range aimed.

(h) Limitations
(i) Beaten - zone. The area beaten by the bomb of 82 mm Mor
characterised by an elliptical shape, being long and narrow.
(ii) Accuracy: The accuracy depends on the aiming, weather
changes and the difference in amount of charges.

(3) Tactical Employment

(a) High Trajectory
(i) 82 mm Mor can engage direct and indirect tgts.

(iii) 82 mm Mor can give fire Sp with its bombs flying over
friendly force’s heads.

(b) Mobility
The crew of 82 mm can mount and dismount quickly and deploy
the wpn in a very short time. Where vehicles cannot carry them
the crew can dismantle and carry wpn.

(c) Vulnerability
Crew shouting, explosion, smoke and vehicles cause this
weapon vulnerable to the enemy so it’s advised to shift the posn
of mortar after every short while.

SECTION – 2

DEPLOYMENT OF 82 MM MOR IN ALL PHASES OF WAR

3. One section of 82 mm Mor is responsible to give fire support to an Infantry

required to do so.

(2) While the Infantry Coy is advancing, the 82 mm Sec Mor will be
deployed to Sp it up to its maximum range where the Infantry Coy will
halt and the Mor sec will move fwd to the posn of the Infantry Coy.
This method is time consuming so it is more advisable to adopt the
first method.
