DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Region VII

FARAON NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

Faraon, Jagna, Bohol
I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a. Label and discuss the parts of an analog multimeter;
b. Manipulate the multimeter according to function and job order; and
c. Solve and interpret the voltage, current, and resistance using a multimeter.

II. Subject Matter:

Topic : The Multimeter
Code : TLE_IAEI10/8UT-0a1-3
Date : September 9, 2024 (Quarter 1, Week 7)
Time Allotment: 45 Minutes
Materials : Analog Multimeter, PPT, Battery, Electrical Outlet, and Bulb

III. Procedures
A. Introductory Activities
 Prayer
 Checking of Attendance

B. Motivation:
 Take a look at the multimeter scale as I hold both of the test probes. Did it move? If yes, why do
you think so?
Possible Answer: It did move, since our body is an example of a conductor/resistor. A material which
the electrons flow, and the multimeter is used to measure such continuity of electron flow.

C. Presentation of the Lesson

 This is an example of an analog multimeter.

D. Discussion of the Lesson

The Multimeter or multimeter is sometimes called the VOM (voltmeter, ohmmeter, milliammeter). It is the
best instrument that can measure voltage, resistance, and current. It is generally made of two types: the
analog and the digital.
Functions of each part of a multimeter
1. Meter scale is used to identify the amount of voltage current and resistance of the circuit being measured.
2. Pointer is a movable part of the multi-tester that deflects and indicates the reading.
3. Zero Position Adjuster is used to adjust the pointer to the zero position of the scale- usually with the help
of a flat head screwdriver.
4. Zero Ohm Adjuster Knob is used to calibrate the multimeter when you want to measure the resistance of
an object
5. Range Selector switch is composed of several settings for voltage, current, and resistance, which indicates
the kind of range (voltage, current, and resistance)to be measured.
6. Test probe positive (red), and negative (black) is used to connect the circuit to the electrical components
being tested.
Proper care and maintenance of the multi-tester
 Read manual of instructions on how to operate the multi tester.
 In reading the amount of voltage, always start with the highest range to avoid reading voltage higher than
the tester setting.
 Be sure that the tester is set to the correct range setting: resistance range when measuring the ohm, voltage
range when measuring voltage and ammeter range when measuring the value of electric current.
 Always check the condition of its battery. Worn-out batteries will damage the internal setting of the tester.
 When the tester is not in use or will be stored, set the selector switch to 1000V or to OFF position.
 Never drop the tester.

Scale Reading
Resistance:
 0 to 2- every graduation is 0.2
 2 to 10- every graduation is 0.5
 10 to 20- every graduation is 1
 20 to 50- every graduation is 2
 50 to 100- every graduation is 5
 100 to 200- every graduation is 20

Voltage
 Range 10 – 0.2V
 Range 50- 1V
 Range 250- 5V
 Range 100- 20V

E. Generalization
 Therefore, a multimeter is an importance measuring device for electricians. As this will inform
about the accurate measurement of voltage, current, resistance. This is also a crucial tool to
calculate wattage and power of a device or appliances.

F. Application
 Group the students into two, using the multi-tester, measure the following
resistance/voltage/current of the following electrical devices:
1. resistance of a bulb
2. continuity of the male plug of an electric fan
3. 12-volt battery
4. Extension wire
5. Voltage of the electrical outlet
IV. Evaluation
A. Complete the table by reading the value indicated by the ohmmeter scale. Please use the table below as your
guide in filling out the table.
No. Range X1 Range Range

C. Label the parts of an analog multimeter.

V. Assignment
 Using an analog multimeter, measure the convenience outlet found in your bedroom, living
room, and dining room.
