1. Abstract
This proposal presents a low cost and flexible home control and environment monitoring system. It employs
an embedded micro-web server in ESP32 for accessing and controlling devices and appliances remotely. To
demonstrate the flexibility and effectiveness of this system, devices such as switches, power plugs, fans, lights
etc., have been integrated with proposed home control system. T
2. Introduction
The increased use of mobile technologies and smart devices in the area of health has caused
great impact on the world. Health experts are increasingly taking advantage of the benefits
these technologies bring, thus generating a significant improvement in health care in clinical
settings. Likewise, countless ordinary users are being served from the advantages of the M-
Health (Mobile Health) applications and E-Health (health care supported by ICT) to improve,
help and assist their health.
Patient Health monitoring using IoT is a technology to enable monitoring of patients outside
of conventional clinical settings (e.g., in the home, office etc.), which may increase access to
care and decrease healthcare delivery costs. This can significantly improve an individual's
quality of life. It allows patients to maintain independence, prevent complications, and
minimize personal costs. This system facilitates these goals by delivering care right to the
home. In addition, patients and their family members feel comfort knowing that they are
being monitored and will be supported if a problem arises.
3. Background
Problem Statement
Online health monitoring can provide useful physiological information in the home. This
monitoring is useful for elderly or chronically ill patients who would like to avoid a long
hospital stay. Wireless sensors are used to collect and transmit signals of interest and a
processor is programmed to receive and automatically analyze the sensor signals. In this
project, you are to choose appropriate sensors according to what you would like to detect and
design algorithms to realize your detection. Examples are the detection of a fall, monitoring
cardiac signals.
During design the following characteristics of the future medical applications adhered:
4. Proposed System
1. ECG
2. Heartbeat
3. Body temperature
4. Surrounding temperature
5. Humidity
6. Online viewing of the collected data for a single patient
Here, the most important specification considered is that they should be safe to use and
accurate. This is because the physiological information being detected determines the severity
of a critical life-threatening situation.
Here the benefits are to design an Online Patient Health Monitoring System to
diagnose the health condition of the patients. Giving care and health assistance to the
bedridden patients at critical stages with advanced medical facilities have become one of the
major problems in the modern hectic world. In hospitals where many patients whose physical
conditions must be monitored frequently as a part of a diagnostic procedure, the need for a
cost-effective and fast responding alert mechanism is inevitable. Proper implementation of
such systems can provide timely warnings to the medical staffs and doctors and their service
can be activated in case of medical emergencies. Present-day systems use sensors that are
hardwired to a PC next to the bed. The use of sensors detects the conditions of the patient and
the data is collected and transferred using a microcontroller. Doctors and nurses need to visit
the patient frequently to examine his/her current condition. In addition to this, use of multiple
microcontrollers based intelligent system provides high-level applicability in hospitals where
many patients must be frequently monitored. For this, here we use the idea of network
technology with wireless applicability, providing each patient a unique ID by which the
doctor can easily identify the patient and his/her status of health parameters. Using the
proposed system, data can be sent wirelessly to the Patient Monitoring System, allowing
continuous monitoring of the patient. Contributing accuracy in measurements and providing
security in proper alert mechanism give this system a higher level of customer satisfaction
and low-cost implementation in hospitals. Thus, the patient can engage in his daily activities
in a comfortable atmosphere where distractions of hardwired sensors are not present.
Physiological monitoring hardware can be easily implemented using simple interfaces of the
sensors with a Microcontroller and can effectively be used for healthcare monitoring. This
will allow development of such low-cost devices based on natural human-computer
interfaces. The system we proposed here is efficient in monitoring the different physical
parameters of many numbers bedridden patients and then in alerting the concerned medical
authorities if these parameters bounce above its predefined critical values. Thus, online
monitoring and control refer to a field of industrial automation that is entering a new era with
the development of wireless
sensing devices.
6
The system is implemented using the combination of hardware components. In this system
we will using ECG sensor, Pulse sensor (for heartbeat), Digital infrared temperature
sensor (for body temperature), and DHT11 (for measuring surrounding temperature and
humidity). All the sensors will be connected with ESP32 using physical pins. ESP32 is used
as a processing device as it has a built-in Wi-Fi module.
In this system first we will write program for all the sensors in Arduino IDE and will upload
to the Arduino. The values measured by the sensor will be send to the android app through
the server. And will be shown real-time on android app and we can share all the measured
result real-time with our doctors.
Software Requirements
Table 1 shows the estimated tentative schedule for developing the proposed
Craft and stitch application. We will try to complete each and every task in the estimated
time.
