SAP BTP-DATA ANALYTICS

Illustrating the Data-to-Value Concept

An Introduction to Data and Analytics
Business Introduction
Your company needs a reliable database with high performance for creating custom developments,
managing data for analytic topics, and extending on-premise capabilities with capabilities of the
cloud. SAP HANA is the main SAP offering for these use cases. Today, data is more important than
ever. But even the best data gathered has no value if it isn't utilized.

At SAP, we refer to the process of deriving maximum value from your data as 'data-to-value'. Our
combination of data and analytics capabilities is key to this process. You want to analyze or
aggregate your data to get insights that can contribute to better planning. Your company needs a
data warehousing solution and an analytics solution for building dashboards, telling stories, and
getting deeper insights.

Data to Value

The SAP Business Technology Platform provides one persistence strategy for all data-driven
innovations to turn data into value. In your enterprise you have several spaces where data is stored.
In addition to this, you have use cases where you need database capabilities. But all data has no
value when you don't store, integrate, model, share and analyze it properly. SAP Business
Technology Platform has the right building blocks to tackle this topic with capabilities for data
storing, data management, data warehousing and data analytics and enterprise planning through a
solution portfolio including SAP HANA Cloud, SAP Data Intelligence, SAP Datasphere and SAP
Analytics Cloud.
Concept of Data to Value

Start utilizing capabilities to achieve a value out of your data today. This will increase the chances for
growth and adaption of your enterprise through better analytics and enterprise planning based on
good integration, preparation and modeling of data with Databases and Data Management solutions
from SAP.

Discovering the Value of SAP HANA Cloud and Other Database

Services
The root step of the Data to Value concept is storing data in storage systems like databases. The SAP
BTP offers SAP HANA Cloud as the strategic database of choice. You can also enhance your SAP
HANA Cloud with data lake capabilities. In addition to that, you can also utilize things like SAP ASE as
a service or other services like an Object Store service. However, let's stay focused on SAP HANA
Cloud.

What is SAP HANA Cloud?

SAP HANA Cloud is a fully managed in-memory multi-tier cloud database as a service (DBaaS). As the
cloud-based data foundation for SAP Business Technology Platform, SAP HANA Cloud integrates data
from across the enterprise, enabling faster decisions based on live data. SAP HANA Cloud is one of
the four pillars of the SAP Business Technology Platform and provides the data services to handle
constantly growing data volumes in central place.

SAP HANA Cloud Value Proposition

Use Cases for SAP HANA Cloud

SAP HANA Cloud is central to SAP's strategy of providing a next-generation digital platform that can
power both existing and new applications, either on-premise or cloud or hybrid. These applications
can be either SAP or non-SAP applications. SAP HANA Cloud can be used in a large number of
different IT scenarios. Let's take a look at some examples of where SAP HANA Cloud can be used:

To provide the database for next generation applications that require super-fast performance on
huge data volumes at scale.
To power data warehouses including SAP Datasphere and custom data warehouses. Also, to power
analytics including SAP Analytics Cloud by connecting to and coordinating distributed data into a
single, consistent data model.

To extend the data storage and processing capacities of on-premise applications, for example, when
large numbers of new users are on-boarded.

To extend the functionality of existing SAP applications using cloud-based services.

SAP BTP Data Services

Almost any type of cloud application can be developed and operated on the SAP Business
Technology Platform. Besides the use of the powerful SAP HANA in-memory database in the SAP
Business Technology Platform, data capabilities can also be implemented using other services such
as Object Store, Redis, hyperscaler option, or PostgreSQL Service.

center.cloud.sap/serviceCatalog?provider=all®ions=all&category=databaseanddatamanagement

Object Store
Object Store service on SAP BTP lets you store and manage objects, which involves creation, upload,
download, and deletion. This service is specific to the IaaS layer such as Azure Blob Storage, Amazon
Web Services, and Google Cloud Platform.

PostgreSQL, hyperscaler option

PostgreSQL, hyperscaler option provides a managed relational database service based on native
PostgreSQL offerings from hyperscale providers like AWS and Microsoft Azure. Using the
PostgreSQL, hyperscaler option service, you can provision and manage PostgreSQL databases on
hyperscalers (AWS RDS PostgreSQL, or Azure Database for PostgreSQL) from SAP BTP and bind them
to your business applications running on the Cloud Foundry environment.

Redis on SAP BTP, hyperscaler option

Redis on SAP BTP, hyperscaler option provides a managed in-memory data store service, based on
native Redis offerings from hyperscale providers like AWS and Microsoft Azure. Using the Redis,
hyperscaler option service, you can provision and manage Redis cache instances on hyperscalers
(AWS ElastiCache for Redis or Azure Cache for Redis) from SAP BTP and bind them to your business
applications running on our Cloud Foundry environment.

Paraphrasing Data Management and Data Warehousing

SAP HANA Cloud Modeling

Traditional databases provided storage capabilities and offered limited (if any) data processing
capabilities. This means that applications would read raw data from the database and, using
application code such as ABAP or JAVA, develop complex data processing code to run on the
application server.

SAP HANA Cloud database provides sophisticated, multitier data storage and, also, advanced data
processing capabilities so that instead of an application requesting raw data from the database, it
can request information. Data processing is now pushed down from the application layer to the in-
memory database of SAP HANA Cloud. This means, not only is data processing faster, applications
are leaner as they do not have to handle data processing logic. Leaner applications means more
agility.

Advanced multi-models with SAP HANA Cloud

Calculation views are defined on top of tables to provide the data processing layer. Calculation views
are usually stacked so that the lower calculation views provide opportunities for reuse by defining
only the basic data layer. On top of those are more calculation views that add further calculations
and semantics until they are ready for consumption by clients. Calculation views do not persist data
but calculate results on-the-fly based on live data in source tables. Source tables can be local tables
in the SAP HANA Cloud database or remote tables in any database

With SAP HANA Cloud, you can combine any type of data: text, geometries, IoT data, and so on, to
create multi-models that power high-performance, advanced analytics.

SAP Datasphere
SAP Datasphere as Foundation for a Business Data Fabric Architecture

Today we are always searching for new technologies which helps us managing data. But in this
endless research we ignored one big problem: We only focus on the technology itself and not on the
data in which the real value li es. The transformation into the cloud has additionally increased the
problem. Now we are trying to extract context via different cloud and on-premise systems.
So, the best approach to tackle this problem wouldn't be moving data hoping to reconstruct lost
data. The best way forward is to have a business data-fabric-architect, a data management
architecture that focuses on provisioning an integrated, semantically rich data layer over underlying
data landscapes to provide seamless and scalable access to data without duplication.

SAP Datasphere will help our customers here. It is the next generation and new name of SAP Data
Warehouse Cloud . SAP Datasphere is a comprehensive data service, which is built on the SAP
Business Technology Platform and the foundation for a business data fabric. It enables any
organization to provide meaningful data to any data consumer- while maintaining business context
