OBJECTIVE
Learn to use Multisim from National Instrument (NI) for circuit simulations, measuring voltage
at each node and current through each component.
Compare the differences between LTspice and Multisim.
BACKGROUND
NI Multisim (formerly MultiSIM) is an electronic schematic capture and simulation program
which is part of a suite of circuit design programs, along with NI Ultiboard. Multisim is one of the
few circuit design programs to employ the original Berkeley SPICE based software simulation.
Multisim includes a comprehensive component library that even can perform microcontroller
simulation (formerly known as MultiMCU), as well as integrated import and export features to the
printed circuit board layout software in the suite, NI Ultiboard.
Multisim is widely used in academia and industry for circuits education, electronic schematic
design and SPICE simulation.
LAB DELIVERIES
PRELAB:
1. Read:

4. Read the document about using breadboards. Review the use of DC power supply,
multimeter.

LAB EXPERIMENTS:
1. Simulation and circuit buildup for Circuit 1 (1) and (2), respectively.
• Run simulation on both LTspice and Multisim for 1ms for both Circuit 1(1) and (2), and
observe the readings of Vout, 𝑖𝑅1 , 𝑖𝑅2 , and 𝑖𝑅3 for each circuit.
• Build Circuit 1(1) on breadboard. Measure its Vout1, 𝑖𝑅1 , 𝑖𝑅2 , and 𝑖𝑅3 .
• Take photos and fill in the table. Compare with the results in Lab 1, and what can you conclude?

POSTLAB REPORT:
I appreciate the help from faculty members and TAs during the composing of this instruction
manual. I would also thank students who provide valuable feedback so that we can offer better
high education to the students.
Step 5: Add voltage and current analysis (probes), and configure simulation settings.
Step 7: Change signal observation mode for advanced circuit and settings.
Step 1: Install Multisim NI and start the software (Click No if requested update). You can either purchase
activation code or use evaluation for 45 days. (Current version: 14.2)
Step 2: Add power source (DC voltage source), ground, resistors and multimeter (ammeter & voltmeter)
into the schematic, and wire (Ctrl-Q) them up. Double click the components for editing.
Step 3: Run or stop the simulation. Observe the current and voltage readings on multimeters.
