Lesson Plan

This lesson plan outlines a 35-40 minute class for 8th-grade students on the topic of Network Topologies. The objectives include developing students' interest in computers, understanding different types of networks (LAN, MAN, WAN), and applying this knowledge in real life. The lesson covers bus, ring, and star topologies, along with teaching aids, student interactions, and homework assignments.

School: GBLSS Khajji Ground Gulbahar#2 Class: 8th
Subject: Computer Duration: 35-40 minutes

Topic: Network Topologies

General Objectives:
1. To develop the Interest of student in learning computer.
2. To develop the abilities of imagination, reasoning and observation.
3. To connect the students with the new technology.
4. To develop understanding about the reality and apply them in real life.

Special Objectives:
 Knowledge:
1. Students will be able to know about the computer network.
2. To get knowledge about the need of computer network
 Understanding:
1. The student will be able to understand about different types of computer network.
2. Student will be able to understand types of network in detail.
 Application:
1. The student will be able to apply this knowledge in their real life.
2. Student will able to use computer network and their connection.

Previous Knowledge:
The students must have familiar with the term “network” and its types (LAN, MAN, WAN)

Teaching Aids:
Chalk, Duster, Blackboard
Introduction:
S. No. Teacher’s Questions Student’s Answer

1. What is network? Connection of two or more computers

2. What is the need of network? To share and exchange data or information
3. What are the types of network? LAN, MAN, WAN
4. What is topology? Problematic question

Statement of Topic:
Now, Teacher will announce the topic, today we will study about “Network Topologies”

Topology Topology refers to the layout pattern Students are
in which various computers are able to know
connected to one another to form a about the
network. The computers on a network topic.
are also referred to as nodes.
Topic:
There are three main types of Network Topologies
topologies. They are:
1. Bus topology
2. Ring topology
3. Star topology

Bus In bus topology, all the computers are Listening

Topology connected to a single cable called the carefully and
bus. The transmission of data from any Note down
computer travels through the length of points in
the bus in both the directions and can their note
be received by all other computers on book
the network. If the address of a
computer is that of the intended
recipient, it accepts the data;
otherwise, the data is rejected.

The advantage of the bus topology is

that it is quite easy to act up. However,
a network cannot function if there are
breaks in the bus.
Ring In ring Topology, each computer is Listening
Topology connected to two other computers so carefully and
as to form a closed ring-like structure. Note down
In this topology, data is transmitted in points in
one direction only. their note
book
The disadvantage of the ring network
is that the breakdown of any one
computer on a ring can disable the
entire system or network.
Star In star topology, all the computers are Listening
Topology connected to a central computer or a carefully and
central node. The data to be Note down
exchanged between any two points in
computers passes through the central their note
node. The central node controls all the book
activities of the nodes. More
computers can be easily added to the
network.

The breakdown of computers, except

the central node, does not affect the
functioning of the network. However,
the failure of the central node disables
the communication across the entire
network.
Recapitulations:
Q1. What is topology?
Q2. What is Star topology?
Q3. What are the differences between Star and Ring Topology?

Homework:
Q1. Name all types of topology?
Q2. Define the types of topology.
Q3. Write true and false for the following.
i) In star topology, all the computers are connected to a central computer
ii) In ring topology, data is transmitted in both directions.
iii) The computers on a network are also referred to as ring.
iv) The advantage of the bus topology is that it is quite easy to set up.
