The cleanliness of the school environment is an important factor that not only relates to the health of
students, but also to the quality of the teaching and learning process. Schools as a place of learning
have the responsibility to keep the environment clean so that students and staff can do their activities
comfortably. However, in this effort to maintain cleanliness, there are various perspectives that
support and oppose the cleanliness policy in the school environment.
On the one hand, a clean school environment has many benefits that cannot be ignored. A clean and
healthy environment can prevent the spread of diseases among students and staff. When classrooms,
toilets and play areas are kept clean, the risk of infectious diseases such as flu or skin infections can
be significantly reduced. This certainly contributes to an increase in students' attendance rate at
school, which in turn has a positive impact on their academic performance.
In addition, hygiene programmes such as daily picket or community service can shape students'
disciplinary character. These activities teach students to be responsible for their surroundings and to
care about cleanliness. With the habit of maintaining cleanliness at school, it is expected that students
will also apply it in the environment outside school, so that it can have a positive impact on society at
large.
However, on the other hand, there is a view that hygiene policies in schools sometimes do not run
effectively due to various obstacles. Some schools, for example, do not have adequate facilities, such
as enough rubbish bins or appropriate cleaning equipment, making it difficult to maintain good
hygiene. In addition, involving students in cleaning activities can also be perceived as an additional
burden for them, especially for students who have busy schedules. This can add pressure and reduce
their study time in class.
Another obstacle is the lack of awareness or indifference from some parties towards cleanliness.
While there are programmes in place, if there is no shared commitment from all students and staff, the
expected results may not be achieved. In addition, maintaining optimal cleanliness also requires
additional costs for cleaning equipment, facility repairs and cleaning staff, which can be a challenge
for schools with limited budgets.
Overall, a clean school environment plays an important role in creating a comfortable and supportive
learning atmosphere. While there are various obstacles in implementing this policy, the long-term
benefits that result from a clean and healthy environment far outweigh the challenges. Therefore, it is
important to find a balanced solution and ensure the hygiene policy can be effectively implemented in
all schools.

finding balanced solutions to overcome such obstacles is an important step towards achieving a clean
school environment that supports learning.
