The Power of the Mind

It is remarkable how the human brain develops and changes throughout

one's life. From infancy to childhood. There are remarkable changes in the
brain that influence the development of an individual
The brain is a "work in progress"

Brain Lateralization or Brain Dominance Theory

-According to the theory of left brain or right brain. dominance each side of
the brain controls different types of thinking. Additionally people thinking to
the other.

Right Brained Individual

-People with right brain dominance are said to be more motional, swayed by
feelings, and seem to view things and events through feelings. They look at
visual references as a whole and then. go through details.
-They are intuitive, believers, of imaginations and fantasies, risk takers,
creative and unpredictable. They tend to be disorganized, unable to make
clear their priorities, and lack time management.

Left Brained Individual

People with left brain dominance are very organized, logical and detail-
oriented. They process ideas in a methodical step by-step manner and this
enables them to commit less mistake. They favor rigid schedules and
deadlines. They are more auditory earners and are better at using words to
remember things rather than visual aids.

The Brain
(Parts, Hemispheres, Lobes )
-The central nervous system (CNS) is composed of a train and Spinal cond.
The peripheral nervous system (PNS) is composed of spinal nerves that
branch from the spinal cord and cranial nerves that branch from the brain.

The Main Parts

Cerebrum, Cerebellum and Brain stem

Cerebrum
-It is the largest part of the brain and is composed of right and left
hemispheres. It performs higher functions like interpreting touch vision and
hearing, as well as speech reasoning, emotional learning and fine control of
movement.
-The cerebrum is divided into two halves the right and left hemisphere. They
are joined by a bunale of fibers called the corpus callosum that transmits
messages from one side to the other. Each hemisphere controls the opposite
side of the body. If a stroke occurs on the right side of the brain, your left
arm or leg may be paralyzed .
-The cerebral hemispheres have distinct fissures, which divide the brain into
loves Each hemisphere has 4 Lobes: Frontal, temporal, parietal and
occipital.

Cerebellum
-It is located under the cerebrum. It's function is to coordinate muscle
movements, maintain posture, and balance.
-Also known as the "little train" It plays a vital role in language and
attention and can assist people with vision and eye movement.

-In a way babies are exercising their brains by listening hard.

-The child brain has changed it has gotten smarter(At first, they just make
googoo sounds. Then words starts coming)
-Learning causes permanent changes in the brain
-No one thinks babies are stupid because they -cant talk.
-They just haven’t learned how to yet. But some people will call person dumb
if they can't solve math problems, or spell a word right, or read fast even
though all these things are learned with practice.
-The more persons learn the easier it gets to learn new things.
What can you do to get smarter?
-Just like a weightlifter or a basketball player, to be a brain athlete, you have
to exercise and practice
By practicing, you make your brain stronger. You also learn skills
-that let you use your brain in a smarter way just like a basket player learns
new moves.
-But many people miss out on the chance to grow a stronger brain because
they think they can't do its or that it's too hand.
The Theory's Advantages and Disadvantages
-It gives us a picture of how the two hemispheres of the brain distinctly
function.
-It provides an understanding of what areas an individual is naturally good at
and those improve or focus. on which he/she needs to improve or focus on.
-Upon knowing to which brain a person is affiliated, he/she can think of ways
to boost strengths and compensate for weakness.
-Being stereotyped as a left brained or right brain,
person may have negative effect or may even impede learning when this
results in a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Self Fulfilling Prophecy.

-A prediction that directly or indirectly causes itself to be -come true by the
very terms of the prophecy itself, due to positive feedback on between belief
and behavior.
-There is nothing good or bad about either preference. Both Orientations can
be equally successful in accomplishing a single task, however, one may be
more appropriate over the other depending on the situation.

Whole Brain Thinking

It is the counterpart argument to the theory of Brain Dominance wherein the
two hemispheres of the brain are believed to work together as a system
instead of an competition with each other.

The Hemispheres

Left Hemisphere
-It controls speech, comprehension, arithmetic and writing.
-It is dominant in hand use and language is about 92% of people.

Right Hemisphere
It controls creativity, spatial ability, artistic and musical skills.

Lobes

Frontal Lobe
•Personality, behavior, emotions
Judgement, planning, problem solving
Speech: Speaking and writing (Broca’s area)
Body movement (motor strip).
Intelligence, concentration, self awareness

Parietal Lobe
-Interprets language words
•Sense of touch, pain, temperature (sensory strip)
-Interprets signals from vision, hearing, motor, sensory and memory
•Spatial and visual perception

Occipital Lobe
Interprets vision (color, light, movement)

Temporal Lobe
Understanding language( Wernicke’s area
Memory
Hearing
