• A database is a collection of
information organized to
provide efficient retrieval. The
collected information could be
in any number of formats
(electronic, printed, graphic,
audio, statistical, combinations).
These are physical (paper/print)
and electronic databases.

can EASILY BE ACCESSED,
MANAGED, AND UPDATED. In one
view, databases can be classified
according to types of content:
bibliographic, full-text, numeric, and
images. (Rouse, 2016)
• Electronic Databases were first used in the
1960s
• 1970 – Dr. Edgar F. Codd published an
academic paper on relational databases.
• His paper inspired the creation of a language to
