Applicants for the PhD positions must hold a master's degree in finance or a related field (e.g., economics), that qualifies them to enroll in a PhD program.

Candidates are required to submit a Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) score, with the results being no older than five years.

About the Organization

The Vienna Graduate School of Finance (VGSF) is a center of excellence in finance. Its well-structured, five-year PhD program trains students to become ambitious researchers in the field. Located in Vienna, the program is run by the Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS), the University of Vienna, and the WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business), and is funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF).

VGSF offers a stimulating learning and research environment, with rigorous supervision and financial support for outstanding students from around the world. The VGSF faculty comprises distinguished professors and junior faculty from IHS, the University of Vienna, and WU, who publish in prominent journals and collaborate with renowned experts and academics. These experts are often invited to VGSF as guest lecturers or to lead seminars. Graduates of the program can look forward to rewarding careers at leading academic and financial institutions.

Additional Information

All students are fully funded and are employed by one of the partner universities. The current minimum monthly gross salary is €2,684 (for 30 hours per week, paid 14 times per year). VGSF also offers travel allowances for attending conferences and summer schools.
