Motivation

[edit]

CoBiS (Q81525085), Coordination of the Special and Specialist Libraries of the Turin Metropolitan Area, is a group of cultural institutions like "Accademia delle Scienze di Torino" or "Istituto nazionale di ricerca metrologica" or "Deputazione Subalpina di storia patria". These and others cultural institutions collaborated to create the "CoBiS LOD project" that started in 2015 with the aim of applying Linked Open Data technologies to provide a single access point onto library catalogs. Metadata are integrated and published according to "Semantic Web Standards" and accessible through a SPARQL endpoint. Metadata are modeled with standard ontologies: Bibframe 2, foaf, schema.org. "CoBiS author ID" connects item of Wikidata to "CoBiS LOD project" entities. Moreover, "CoBiS LOD project" is itself connected to external LOD Cloud resources (and more are in its roadmap), becoming a source of automatic connections of Wikidata items to external Open Linked Data resources.
