How does the auction work?

VKontakte targeted advertising is a popular promotion tool. It is not surprising that hundreds of advertisers want to show their ads to the same people as you. The system uses the auction principle to determine which advert will be seen by users.

How does the auction work?
When creating an advertisement, you choose the audience and set the price � specify the rate you are willing to pay for a click on your advertisement (CPC payment option) or for one thousand of impressions (CPM payment option). VKontakte has a so-called �first price auction� � if you win the auction, you will pay the specified price.

What goes on next?
At the moment when a user opens his/her VKontakte page, where the advertisement is supposed to be placed, the system will instantly hold an auction for all advertisements targeted to the user.

So, the richest will win?
Not exactly. Even the advertiser with the highest bid cannot purchase all possible impressions � there are very many VKontakte visitors, so all auction participants will catch attention of the audience. If you pay more, your advertisement will win the auction more frequently and will be seen by more people.

What rate should I start with?
When you create your advertisement, the system will suggest the recommended rate � the value automatically calculated by the system according to the analysis of the current competition for the audience. The recommended rate will allow you to reach more of your target audience. However, you can change the recommended value by targeting it when choosing your own strategy.
