Description
English: The final section of Susan B Anthony's speech at her trial in 1873. Anthony was placed on trial for attempting to vote in the State of New York. Anthony postulates that the 15th Amendment gives women the right to vote and that married women were in a legal state of servitude and needed the federal government to establish legal rights for women in the United States. In a trial without an independent jury judge, John Hunt found her guilty and issued a fine that was never paid. Enforcement of the fine was waived so that Anthony would not have an opportunity to take her case to the Supreme Court.
