I do not remove personal attacks directed at me from this page. If you spot any, please do not remove them, even if vile, as they speak more against the attacker than against me.

I am active mainly as an en:Wikipedia:Articles for creation reviewer. Part of my reviews look at files, often uploaded here. If you are here because I have nominated your file for deletion that is because I have been working in your Draft: article (0.9 probability). I am not an administrator of any project because I believe that deletion must be a dual key process. That gives you and me great safeguards

Image on my Article

[edit]

Hello

The image I inserted onto the Michael Rhoades page is published nowhere including on the web. Is this still a potential copyright violation? The image for this article was created by Michael Rhoades and is used with his permission.

It seems that any image I post on this article is subject to the same alarm. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thank you AugmentedIntelligence (talk) 13:46, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@AugmentedIntelligence I am afraid you have probably made the assumption that verbal (presumably) permission is sufficient to allow upload by you to Wikimedia Commons, but it is not. If you are not the copyright owner yourself, and sometimes even of your are, you may be asked to prove your right to upload files here. Please visit COM:VRT and initiate the process of provision of proof of permission. Any files which have been deleted, if uncured in that proof of permission, will be restored one satisfactory completion of that process. 🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦 13:54, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply and the link. I will check it out. AugmentedIntelligence (talk) 13:57, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AugmentedIntelligence Thank you. The issue often starts with assumptions turning into incorrect answers dutring the upload process. When you have done the VRT element, the current most pressing task, please read Commons:Copyrights which may tell you even more than you wish to know about this site.
Commons is pedantic at seeking to protect the copyright of the copyright owner, sometimes erring on the side of caution. See COM:PCP. This not only protects the copyright owner, but protects Cpmmons. The bureaucracy is annoying sometimes, but essential. I think you would agree if you found a picture to which you owned the copyright placed here by another, but from which you might obtain licencing fees if not placed here. 🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦 14:03, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sure... I understand what you mean. As I am sure you must run into often, it is a difficult process for a newbie.
I have submitted several images to photosubmission@wikimedia.org
Should I await a response to upload the images? I do not want my page deleted nor do I want to be blocked due to this.
Thanks again! AugmentedIntelligence (talk) 14:13, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AugmentedIntelligence I recommend patience. The article is handled on Wikipedia, and the images have no relationship with its retention nor deletion. The sole thing that concerns Wikipedia is w:en:N and w:en:V. There, in w:en:Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Michael Rhoades may I suggest strongly you request that it be returned to Draft space? Otherwise there is a true risk of deletion. I was unable to draftify it there because it had beed done previously. 🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦 14:19, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
ok... I moved the Michael Rhoades article to Draft:Michael Rhoades...
I think that is what you mean...??? AugmentedIntelligence (talk) 14:25, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AugmentedIntelligence not exactly, but it will have to do 🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦 14:28, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Will I receive a reply from the people I sent the images to to let me know they are clear? AugmentedIntelligence (talk) 14:30, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AugmentedIntelligence You will. What you have done is opened a dialogue. If they need more information they will be in touch. You are now in a queue for a task which is treated as important.
On enWiki I have sorted out the deletion process. All is now as it should be 🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦 14:36, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok... Thank you for that. It appears another editor is now suggesting it be deleted for another reason. That particular person had ok'ed it several days ago... and it has been published since... until today when I tried putting the images in.
Very difficult to discern what is happening. AugmentedIntelligence (talk) 14:40, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AugmentedIntelligence It is only difficult because you moved it to mainspace prior to its being ready. What has happened there is:
  1. you have moved it to Draft.
  2. I have closed the deletion discussion as Draftofy
  3. I have had to ask r=for the redirect left behind in Mainspace to be deleted. Thise have to go (there is a rule)
  4. That has now been deleted.
  5. w:en:Draft:Michael Rhoades remains and is able to be worked upon.
All is as it should be. 🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦 14:49, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
ok... Thanks again for your time and clarifications. AugmentedIntelligence (talk) 14:51, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AugmentedIntelligence If I were to review it now I woudl give the same message, which is that you have not proved that he passes w:en:WP:NARTIST. There is work to do. 🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦 14:59, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see... I thought I had satisfied that with another editor last week. They required that I post at least three articles. The last three external links at the bottom of the page are newspaper articles regarding exhibits by Rhoades. Is that not enough? AugmentedIntelligence (talk) 15:03, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There are a few published papers by Rhoades, that show groundbreaking work in his field (including his Phd dissertation that is based upon new knowledge created), that I would love to cite in the article, however, they too are potential copyright violations. AugmentedIntelligence (talk) 15:06, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AugmentedIntelligence The problem you face is that you have not met the English Language Wikipedia's requiriemges for a living person. These are:
For a living person we have a high standard of referencing. Every substantive fact you assert, especially one that is susceptible to potential challenge, requires a citation with a reference that is about them, and is independent of them, in multiple secondary sources which are w:en:WP:RS, and is significant coverage. Please also see w:en:WP:PRIMARY which details the limited permitted usage of primary sources and w:en:WP:SELFPUB which has clear limitations on self published sources. Providing sufficient references, ideally one per fact cited, that meet these tough criteria is likely to make this draft a clear acceptance (0.9 probability). Lack of them or an inability to find them is likely to mean that the person is not suitable for inclusion, certainly today.
The references you have chosen so far are not independent of the subject. The papers you suggest have the same problem. As a reviewer I accept drafts which I believe have a better than 50% chance of surviving an immediate deletion process. As presented, this draft is on the wrong side of that line for me. That is why I sent it to w:en:WP:AFD, Had it been on the correct side I might have flagged it for lack of references. 🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦 15:11, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The images of my article were my own work, and they were uploaded by me. There was no copyright violation, also there is no name violation to their lebel. They were here for the last 2 to 3 years. So can you please restore them, they are very important to my article. And if there's something wrong with them, how can i fix it. Thank you 197.231.201.159 17:05, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot. I am not an administrator. I did not delete them, an administrator did. I made relevant nominations for deletion. That is all. 🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦 17:53, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Deeq rooble wacays go to one of the deleted files. It states who deleted it. Alternatively present your credentials to COM:VRT. Ideally do both things 🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦 21:15, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
