It is located 84 kilometres (52 mi) north of Tampere in the Pirkanmaa region. The population of Parkano is 6,088 (October 31, 2024)[2] and the municipality covers an area of 853.19 km2 (329.42 sq mi) of which 57.50 km2 (22.20 sq mi) is inland water (January 1, 2018).[1] The population density is 7.14/km2 (18.5/sq mi).
The municipality is unilingually Finnish.
