editthere is a free image of mike todd here: http://hdl.loc.gov/loc.pnp/cph.3g04348 that would look great w/ this article. 140.247.240.181 23:30, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
--71.222.247.31 22:29, 22 October 2007 (UTC)I know for a fact that they DID find his body. That guy has to be wrong.
Mike Todd's body
editIn June 1977, Mike Todd's body was dug up and his remains were found about 100 yards from his grave in a bag. Dental records proved the remains were those of Mike Todd, which proves his body was found after the fatal plane crash. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.181.218.88 (talk) 13:11, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
The lucky ones
editI have notes that say Elizabeth Taylor, Kirk Douglas, Joe E Lewis and Joseph Mankiewicz were all scheduled to fly with him on his fateful flight, but all changed their plans for various reasons. This needs a cite, though. -- JackofOz (talk) 22:34, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
Todd-AO Studios
editIsn't it odd that this whole article fails to use the word SOUND? He started an independent sound recording/post production company very early on that is, to this day, the world's largest independent audio post production company, Todd-AO Studios. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.127.100.147 (talk) 09:54, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
Consensus to change infobox photo
editThe following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
There was no consensus to change the infobox photo among those who have edited this article. The only edits made by the editor were to change the photo to something he recently uploaded and it has been reverted. We hope (talk) 13:06, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
- Maybe you can explain to the curious why you personally think a photo of a theater cafe is more useful to his biography than a photo of him. --Light show (talk) 17:07, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

removed photo
-
restored photo
- They'd also like to know why the previous free use photo needed replacement. We hope (talk) 17:44, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
- It wasn't replaced, it was just moved down in place of the cafe image. The photo you removed is clearer and better for his lead, IMO. --Light show (talk) 18:00, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
- To me, the Frisell photo captures something of Todd's essence--always thinking about what the "next big thing" would be. It was also included in her book. We hope (talk) 18:06, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
- To me, it would fit better in Chicago cuisine than his bio. --Light show (talk) 18:10, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

The photo we're discussing was taken on Long Island. We hope (talk) 18:12, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
- Then why restore a photo of a restaurant and delete a good one of him? It's his bio. --Light show (talk) 18:15, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
- Tell me what a photo of Todd with his hand out tells us about the man and what he did? We hope (talk) 18:18, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
- He's either asking for spare change or checking for rain. --Light show (talk) 17:27, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

Best image for bio and/or lead
edit{{rfc|bio|rfcid=FB2767E}}
Per above discussion, two questions:
- Should the "removed photo" be used instead of the "restored photo?"
- Is the "removed photo" better for lead than the existing one?--Light show (talk) 17:27, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
Opinions
edit- Support The "removed photo" is clearer, sharper and better lit, therefore better for his lead image. It's also far better for his bio than a photo of a cafe, if only one can be used. --Light show (talk) 17:27, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose The photo in the article is by noted photographer Toni Frissell. It depicts part of Todd's professional life, when he produced the Strauss operetta A Night in Venice at Jones Beach. He's seen with the scenery for the production in the background. This was quite a production for Todd, complete with floating gondolas. The photo from the newspaper showing Todd with his hand out tells us nothing about the man and what he did, as the Jones Beach photo does. Further, the user who changed the photo and started this RFC made all of two edits to it--those were to change the original photo to something he recently uploaded. We hope (talk) 17:55, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- No need to ABF by implying hidden agendas. My only agenda is to improve lead images that IMO need improving. That's why I didn't bother changing an image you chose for Red Skelton's lead, even though I also uploaded a different one last year. Yours was fine, even though it was much smaller. Lighten up. --Light show (talk) 19:20, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- If we're going to mix apples and oranges on Todd's talk page, let's set the facts straight re: your claim of not changing the infobox photo at Skelton:
- (add different image)
- (The original image is better in quality. Maybe a discussion should be started.)
- If the number of edits you've made to the Todd article and what they were are BF, then so be it. We hope (talk) 19:34, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- There's nothing wrong with asking others for their opinions, when a 514 KB file is available instead of one only 22 KB. I didn't edit war or argue about it. --Light show (talk) 19:43, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- You said above "I didn't bother changing an image you chose for Red Skelton's lead, even though I also uploaded a different one last year." The diffs show you did make the change and it was reverted by someone else. You hit the talk page there only after the editor reverted the infobox photo. We hope (talk) 19:49, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

- Neither: Photo should be of the man himself, and should be the better-quality photo, therefore this one is best: IMO. Balaenoptera musculus (talk) 12:04, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- Comment This is the Toni Frissell photo which was in the infobox to start with and was removed and replaced by the user who started the RFC. We hope (talk) 13:08, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
- Neither Uninvolved editor asked for a comment: I agree with User: We hope and User: Balaenoptera musculus that the Toni Frissell photo [[File: Miketodd.jpg]] is the best to use here. Tvoz/talk 02:18, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
- Neither Everything Tvoz said is true for me, as well. MjolnirPants Tell me all about it. 03:41, 26 May 2014 (UTC)

From where did the fatal flight take off?
editI don't think this is mentioned. Presumably it was from somewhere near LA, but a casual reader might gather that it took off from Albuquerque - which would mean it was traveling in the wrong direction for New York. Harfarhs (talk) 19:07, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Harfarhs Just fixed that; it had taken off from Burbank, California (so yes, near Los Angeles) and was heading to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Colin Douglas Howell (talk) 00:45, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
