Question from ArtistLed (06:54, 29 August 2024)

edit

Hi, I have contributed some information about my art practice in a new article. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or recommendations for the same. Thank you. --ArtistLed (talk) 06:54, 29 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

@ArtistLed: Hey, sorry for the untimely reply. It's strongly discouraged to write about yourself or something you have a close connection to. Your article should be created instead at the Article wizard. Then, it can be submitted as a draft. If accepted, it becomes a proper article. There is no guarantee it will be accepted. If you would like me to change the article to a draft and submit it, please tell me so.
Here are some critiques of the article:
  • The article by Julia Hones should be removed. You need to also remove the material in the article that it references. It is published on blogspot and generally unreliable due to being self-published.
  • Remove the external link to your book (Gaia’s Own). See WP:ELNO for why.
  • I have adjusted your references section to be properly formatted.
  • What is the pdf? It should probably be removed.
  • Make sure you are not writing in a promotional tone. (see WP:PROMO, WP:NPOV)
PerfectSoundWhatever (t; c) 17:52, 16 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello, Thank you for your reply. The content is all factual, just sharing information about my art, and not a promotion or advertisement. Please go ahead and make the changes you think are needed to make it right. I would really appreciate your help. Thank you. The pdf was written by an established art critic here in India, and receiving her feedback is an achievement in itself. But please go ahead and delete it if that's the correct thing. Thank you once more. Have a great day. ArtistLed (talk) 23:01, 16 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

How do I make a article --Jbego 1 (talk) 19:28, 6 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Jbego 1: Hi there, my apologies for the late reply. You should begin by creating a draft at the Article wizard. Use Help:Your first article as a guide on how to start. Make sure to look over Wikipedia's core policies first. I would suggest looking at articles on similar subjects to get an idea of the formatting and style. Let me know if you have any questions about the article creation process, thanks — PerfectSoundWhatever (t; c) 17:41, 16 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

DCWC closing update

edit

The 2024 Developing Countries WikiContest has come to a close! After a thrilling finish to the event with a slew of submissions on the final day, we have our winners. With 608 points,     Thebiguglyalien (submissions) comes in third with his series of Kiribati and Botswanan submissions;     BeanieFan11 (submissions) flies into second place at the last second with 771 points after a string of good articles about sportspersons; and after leading for much of contest's three months,     Generalissima (submissions) finishes with a whopping 798 points to take home the Gold Belt Buckle. Congratulations to our winners!

In addition to his spot in the top three,   BeanieFan11 (submissions) also wins the special awards for submitting under the most countries (44 countries) and for writing the most articles about women (15 Did you know? nominations)!   Magentic Manifestations (submissions), after making 16 submissions under the Indian flag—15 of them good articles—receives the awards for most submissions for a single country and most featured or good articles promoted. For their submission of one FAC review, five FLC reviews, and 20 GAN reviews, Simongraham (submissions) wins for most article reviews.

The results of the contest have far exceeded any expectations the coordinators had for it at the beginning: among the submissions to the event were 3 FAs, 10 FLs, 88 GAs, dozens of article reviews of every kind, and more Did you know? submissions than we can count! Regardless of your level of participation, every contestant can be proud to have contributed towards a major step in countering the systemic bias on Wikipedia. Every year, millions of readers and editors around the globe use Wikipedia to educate themselves and communicate with others about parts of the world that often receive less attention than they deserve. Thank you for participating with us in the contest and contributing to this effort. The DCWC will return next year and we look forward to seeing you contribute again! However, before that...

We need your feedback! Join the conversation on the talk page to discuss your reflections on the contest (even if you didn't participate!) and help us make it better.

If you have any questions, please leave a message on the contest talk page or ask one of the coordinators: Ixtal (talk · contribs), sawyer777 (talk · contribs), or TechnoSquirrel69 (talk · contribs). AfC reviewer activity reminder

edit

Hi! This is a reminder Articles for Creation reviewers who don't perform any reviews for six months can be removed from the list for inactivity. Don't be a stranger! We'd love to see you take on any number of reviews, but even a single one will be enough to maintain your reviewer status.

Thanks for volunteering, and thanks for the reviews you've done so far! -- asilvering (talk) 20:06, 5 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from ILoveFinance (14:01, 9 October 2024)

edit

Hello! When I post on a Talk page, and I want to either edit or delete something I wrote, what is the best/proper way to go about this? Up until now I have edited source, but maybe that's improper? Thank you :) --ILoveFinance (talk) 14:01, 9 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

@ILoveFinance: Hi! The relevant wiki guideline is here: WP:TALK#REPLIED. Essentially, common practice is using strikethrough to delete comments, to not remove them outright. Similarly, you should indicate that the comment has been edited and what was added. If it's been a short while and no one's replied, its probably fine to not do these things. Source editor is fine for this. Thanks — PerfectSoundWhatever (t; c) 18:00, 16 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

GCP Gray : 28 october 24

edit

Hi! you reverted my edit on that page, for lack of reference, and I'll explain why I didn't add any reference. I'm French and a fan of CGP grey's video. As a french, I didn't know if CGP was an acronym or else so I searched and found a page giving his first names, which initials are CGP. So I first edited the French page, giving his full name, and then wanted to do the same for the English page, where I could see a note, in the source code, that he did not want his full name to be made public. So I just indicated that CGP are his initials, but I could not refer to the page that was disclosing his full name. I also corrected the edit in the french page, to comply to his wish, even if this page was not reporting the request (which is sort of a bug no? if he requests a privacy clause, why isn't it automatically reported in the pages in other languages?). BR, GCab (talk) 13:11, 28 October 2024 (UTC).Reply

Hi, @GCab:. My understanding is that we should avoid stating his full name in the article, but linking to a page containing it would be OK. However, I'm not sure if there's a reliable source stating this information. Since it's a WP:BLP, we're stricter about making sure everything has a source, and that it's reliable. What you added feels a bit too much like an editor making their own conclusions and sorta WP:OR. Maybe it's something we could put in a footnote but I'm hesitant. You could start a discussion at Talk:CGP Grey. — PerfectSoundWhatever (t; c) 03:34, 29 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi @PerfectSoundWhatever:, and thank you very much for the detailed response. I don't know if Wikitubia can be considered as a reliable source. I don't know either how to interpret "my understanding... would be OK": Do you have enough authority so that I can consider this as a "Go"? I know that questioning your authority may sound very rude, it is just that I don't know enough of how wikipedia works... but since you are much more experienced than me, may be you could tell me where to report what I consider like a bug, IE that his request for privacy is not mentioned in the pages of other languages? I think that, because all theses are problems are quite generic and not strictly related to GCP Grey, may be there is another more appropriate place where the discussion could take place? BR GCab (talk) 09:21, 1 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
@GCab: Hey, sorry for the late reply. You are welcome to question my authority. I have no authority for decision making, as in, my opinion isn't inherently worth any more than an editor with less edits. On Wikipedia, the most valued thing is consensus. For consensus, the experience of an editor is not important, but the quality of their arguments. As well, a primary principle of Wikipedia is Be Bold: essentially you should first make the change, and if someone disagrees, they can undo it and you can discuss (like we're doing now). Let me know if you have any other questions about how Wikipedia works.
Wikitubia is not a reliable source since the content is written by anyone, like wikipedia. You can read more at WP:FANDOM and WP:SPS. What changes are you aiming to add to the article in other languages? If the edits are simple enough, you could make them yourself. Otherwise, you might want to try the Wikipedia:Local Embassy which has avenues for inter-language wiki communication. Thanks — PerfectSoundWhatever (t; c) 03:07, 21 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
