Differences between two disk images?
Hello, Jeh
I really really hope I am not bothering you but I'm basically at the end of my rope, so I thought I might give you a try. This is not Wikipedia business, so I understand perfect if you might want to kick this message out of the window. (No hard feelings.)
I'm looking for a mean of taking two disk snapshots (say, two full backups or two virtual HD images) at two different times and then investigate the differences in terms of what file is changed and what is changed in it. I could take to VHD snapshots and mount them and then run WinMerge on them, but think of all those NTFS permissions that get in the way. And besides, I'm also interested in the differences between NTFS permissions as well... and alternative streams if there are any.
Do you know of any ready solution at hand? Or should I start writing one?
Best regards,

- I know of anything offhand, but I'll ask around. I should have an answer (either a pointer to a solution or "I dunno") within about a day. (No problems at all re the query.) Jeh (talk) 05:54, 10 May 2014 (UTC)
- Haven't found anything, sorry. I was hoping to find something in Windows-specific forensic software, or software for malware research, but nada. You might ask in the "Microsoft OS & Software Colloquium" forum at Ars Technica - greatest tech blog and forum site on the web, as far as I'm concerned. Jeh (talk) 02:46, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks a bunch. Fortunately, Linux software is also okay; I have access to Linux Mint. Best regards, Codename Lisa (talk) 06:41, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
