CED VHS revert

edit

Hi. I noticed that you reverted my edit on the CED/VHS part. I merely edited the text so it'd look more professional and encyclopedic.

What mistake did I made to warrant a revert and if you're okay with, suggest me an alternative if my edit didn't work? HarlambiDaabrev (talk) 20:26, 25 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

I assume we're talking about this. The original statement was slightly better than VHS. Your revision made it say slightly better than, or comparable to the VHS. The cited source says The subjective evaluation of people familiar with all these formats is that CED is better than VHS. Your revised statment takes us further from what the source says. What were you attempting to accomplish with this edit? You left no edit summary that could help me. ~Kvng (talk) 22:42, 25 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Fixing the grammar to make it more encyclopedic. If that didn't work, what's the alternative? HarlambiDaabrev (talk) 12:33, 26 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
@HarlambiDaabrev, what was wrong with the grammar? "Encyclopedic" means different things to different editors. What does it mean to you? ~Kvng (talk) 13:51, 26 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
To me it sounds more professional. Correct me if I'm wrong. HarlambiDaabrev (talk) 14:11, 26 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
@HarlambiDaabrev, I'm not getting that. It sounds more ambiguous. I guess if you're in marketing that could translate to more professional. ~Kvng (talk) 14:20, 26 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
If that's more ambiguous, then what's the alternative? HarlambiDaabrev (talk) 14:37, 26 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Leaving it as it is is the obvious alternative. Adding the whose picture quality is qualifier is arguably an improvement but I think this is already evident from context. ~Kvng (talk) 21:50, 26 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for a very late reply. The thing is, it'd sound more neutral (per Wikipedia tone). HarlambiDaabrev (talk) 09:24, 24 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
The article, to my eye, has an accurate summary of what's in the cited source. Your change made the summary less accurate. Degrading accuracy is not good. If you think the source is inaccurate or does not tell the whole story, let's find a better or additional source so we can write a better summary of this comparison. ~Kvng (talk) 15:27, 24 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from Jgibbons333 (05:08, 1 December 2024)

edit

Is there a way to report something going on that’s unethical, like people holding a pay hostage? It looks like that’s what’s happening. --Jgibbons333 (talk) 05:08, 1 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Jgibbons333, I'm not sure what holding a pay hostage is but the ultimate place to deal with bad behavior is WP:ANI. Please read the suggestions listed there before posting because it is not a fun place to be if you can figure out a better way through the dispute. ~Kvng (talk) 14:00, 1 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
So I meant holding a “page” hostage. The “Palmer report” wiki page has had multiple complaints about the way it’s written, but doesn’t seem like they are taking it seriously. I agree that it’s inaccurate to call the org. a “fake news” website. It comes off like it’s written to hurt their (palmer report’s) reputation. 173.72.130.162 (talk) 23:41, 13 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from EditAboutIt (23:16, 2 December 2024)

edit

Hello, I am attempting to write an article for submission called "virtual organizing" and per Wiki instructions I need to disclose my possible COI as I work in the industry as a certified professional. How do I do this? Thank you --EditAboutIt (talk) 23:16, 2 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

@EditAboutIt, have a look at WP:DISCLOSE ~Kvng (talk) 03:21, 3 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, for your help.
I am not a paid contributor but I do work in the industry.
I saw this link you sent me before but, due to my inexperience with Wikipedia, do not understand how to:
  1. add "{{connected contributor}}" to the page or my edit which I already edited: "professional organizing" or how to
  2. add the same required notation of COI in an article I want to add for "virtual organizing" for submission to educate the public about this new technique in professional organizing, or
  3. where to add this first submission and new article of "virtual organizing" in my user account for peer review.
Kind Regards, @EditAboutIt EditAboutIt (talk) 04:06, 3 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

WP:MERGECLOSE seems to be quite nonchalant on who can close the merge: Any user, including the user who first proposed the merge, may close the discussion and move forward with the merge if enough time (normally one week or more) has elapsed and there has been no discussion or if there is unanimous consent to merge. (italics is mine, but the boldface is original). So, personally, I do not see anything wrong with my closing. Викидим (talk) 21:43, 6 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Parser function time errors

edit

I started making edits to clear pages from Category:Pages with parser function time errors, and found several {{merged-from}} that you had tagged |date= with <span class="bday dtstart updated">, and removing that cleared the error (DIFF, DIFF). The errors happened after this 27 July 2024 template coding change, as requested at Template talk:Merged-from. Just checking to make sure it's OK to mass-remove the <span class="bday dtstart updated"> since I don't know the reason why you put that there. wbm1058 (talk) 14:20, 24 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Yes, OK to remove. Thanks for checking. That was due to some template subst quirk. ~Kvng (talk) 15:29, 24 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
