Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Greece–Nicaragua relations

Please could you take another look at this. I've integrated a few more citations into the article about the Socialist-Sandinista era, see if it's up to WP:N now. --99of9 (talk) 02:37, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

Hello 99of9: Thanks for the notification. I checked out the sources you added to the article, but they all appear to consist of passing mentions of Greece–Nicaragua relations, rather than in-depth coverage, which is typically required to demonstrate topic notability. AFD for another beauty pageant - may I ask for your input?

Hi, I recently saw your contributions to the AFD for Miss Asia Pacific World. I wonder whether I could be cheeky and ask you to take a look at another beauty pageant related AFD nomination, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Miss Globe Organisation? I fully understand if you would prefer not to get involved, but I think it would be useful to have input from someone who hasn't had any involvement with this specific subject, but who has dealt with similar topics. WP Brands tagging

Sorry it took so long, I finally got time to look at it. Are you sure you intend to tag articles like Beretta 418? Anomie 22:38, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

Hello Anomie: Thanks for the reply, and I look forward to the commencement of auto-tagging for WP:BRANDS. Regarding the article above, sure, since these are brands of firearm that are made by the Beretta company. The plan is to tag brand-related articles, but not companies, since Wikiproject Companies already covers them. Northamerica1000(talk) 01:39, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
Ok, just making sure. I'll start it in a few minutes. Anomie 01:41, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
Awesome, and thanks again for your assistance with all of this! Northamerica1000(talk) 01:43, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
FYI, AnomieBOT has completed tagging everything in those categories. It looks like about 18247 talk pages were tagged. Anomie 03:24, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

Template tagging

Hi North. Consensus so far seems to suggest that this template is a good idea and there is support for it as an editnotice on articles about organizations. Though I'm waiting cautiously for the whole "no direct edits" debate to re-spark.

I was wondering, because you recently did something similar for WikiProject Brands. Once the RfC is closed and a consensus is reached, what would be the next step towards actually implementing an editnotice and/or Talk page template across a large number of articles? I am especially hesitant to do anything bold here. CorporateM (Talk) 18:24, 6 February 2013 (UTC)

Hello CorporateM: I wasn't aware of proceedings regarding this matter. Please provide a link to the discussion occurring regarding this matter. Regarding automatic tagging, AnomieBOT recently finished its run of tagging article talk pages with the project banner for WikiProject Brands, and it would likely be functional for placing this tag. Northamerica1000(talk) 04:06, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
I was thinking more along the lines of getting adequate consensus and discussion before tagging. I would guess it would have at least a couple more months of incubation time and may get re-written a few times in the process, assuming it doesn't widdle off into endless debate ;-)
The current RfC is just on the Talk page of the template.[6] CorporateM (Talk) 04:29, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the link. Utilization of this template on a large scale may have some detractors, so it's definitely a good idea to request community input regarding this matter, which you have done. I'll post comments at the discussion from here on out. (Still please feel free to contact me at anytime here, though).   Northamerica1000(talk) 04:34, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
Yes, one editor mentioned something about wanting COIs to "slow their roll." I think that's a message most editors can get behind and is a good objective-statement for the editnotice, but what that means when we try to boil it down to three sentences is another story. There is a gap that corporate environments thrive on process and rules, while Wikipedians don't want to have any. Feel free to edit the template too; it's only used on a handfull of articles where I've used it personally. CorporateM (Talk) 05:29, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

NAC

Hello. Can you please revert your closure of this discussion as that sort of action requires administrative judgement. WP:NACD policy says that controversial closures such as these are better left to administrators. Thankyou Till 10:40, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

Done. The close was not particularly controversial, and rather obvious as a no consensus per the discourse of the discussion. WP:NACD states "Close calls and controversial decisions are better left to an administrator", but this is neither a close call nor a decision that I would consider controversial. If I had closed the discussion with a "keep" result (which I wouldn't do in this case), rather than per my "no consensus" close, I would consider that to be controversial. At any rate, the closure has been reverted. Northamerica1000(talk) 11:03, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
Hi. A no consensus outcome also isn't helpful for the DYK nomination. Could you please review this? Thanks very much. -- Trevj (talk) 10:45, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for your co-operation and handling that very maturely. Ta Till 11:00, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
per comments made by other users it should have probably closed as no consensus the first time around on Jan 29 2013. Reslisting hasn't really helped since. It certainly isn't a controversial decision to have closed as no consensus per WP:NACD. — Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 12:30, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for providing your input. I find myself in agreement with your analysis here, particularly the latter part. Cheers, Northamerica1000(talk) 12:33, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Thanks, even though of course the next closer may come to the same conclusion as you! In fact, I ended up reading through the discussion there (before !voting) with the intention of closing it. While I saw that it didn't appear to be a keep to me, I thought a merge close (clear to me, based on the policy arguments) could have been viewed as a supervote, hence my !vote instead of close. -- Trevj (talk) 12:40, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

Btw, someone reverted your relisting of the discussion Till 05:46, 8 February 2013 (UTC)

Maybe it's for the better; the discussion will likely just eventually be closed again by another editor as no consensus. This is a unique example of a discussion in which (per the discussion there as of the time of this post) any other type of closing result would be akin to a supervote. Maybe more editors will contribute there. Northamerica1000(talk) 08:32, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
Sounds like a reasonable summary. Anyone relisting would probably be criticised, depending on what justification is given for doing so. -- Trevj (talk) 08:46, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
Nope, discussion closed as merge Till 11:58, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
Interesting. Sure, lots of sources, but the depth of coverage was contested by the closer (and several participants there). Many of the sources do fall short of significant coverage. I'm not particularly interested in this topic, but it wouldn't surprise me if someone takes this to DRV. Northamerica1000(talk) 12:03, 8 February 2013 (UTC)

Miniapolis' RFA

Hi Northamerica1000, I'm just wondering why this was at all necessary. It is assumed that the candidate answers their questions, no? A bunch of unsigned templates is both superflous and unsightly. To be frank, it paints the candidate in a negative light because it makes them look like they don't know what they're doing. Airplaneman 22:12, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

Re:WikiProject Hotels

Hi Northamerica1000. Thanks for the invite; the project sounds interesting. There seems to be a bit of an issue with the invitation template's coding, though. It's placing any new posts on my user page at the very top, even if they've actually been posted at the bottom. The only workaround I could manage is to move all new posts above the invitation. Can you perhaps help fix this? Best regards, Middayexpress (talk) 16:31, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Hello Middayexpress: This may have occurred due to the formatting of your user talk page, possibly due to the box there on the perimeter of the page. When I posted the invitation, it posted at the bottom of the page (See diff). On the subsequent post, the invitation was also existent at the bottom of the page (See diff). There appears to be no problem with the invitation template itself. Northamerica1000(talk) 16:38, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
I just sent you a talkback notice, and sure enough, it posted at the top of your page. This is due to the way you have formatted the page. I've used this template many times and have never had this type of problem with it. Again, it appears that you may need to adjust the code on your page. It appears that the </div> at the end of the template may have caused the error on your talk page. Northamerica1000(talk) 16:45, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
It has something to do with the template because I've never encountered this issue before. The only way around the problem is to move the post above the template. I've just done that, and sure enough, your talkback message now appears towards the bottom of the page like it should. I think you may be right about the nowiki; I'll test it out and get back to you. Cheers, Middayexpress (talk) 16:51, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
I tested it out, as you likely noticed, but I'd rather not change the template that all editors receive due to one unique circumstance. Please note that these types of templates with borders are common. Northamerica1000(talk) 16:58, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
Looks like it was the template coding after all; seems to be all sorted out now. Cheers, Middayexpress (talk) 17:00, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
It appears that this problem will continue to occur on your talk page if you ever receive templates or messages with <div> markup, unless you change the parameters of your talk page. Northamerica1000(talk) 17:07, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
The div style coding in the template seems to have been conflicting with the div style at the top of the page. I've closed that parameter. The template should perhaps work now ordinarily; give it a shot. Middayexpress (talk) 17:16, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
A test post with </div> markup just posted correctly at the bottom of your talk page. Northamerica1000(talk) 17:24, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
Yes! It seems to be all working now, and I've re-added the div style as per your original template. Cheers, Middayexpress (talk) 17:27, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

TAFI

Hello,
In the past few days, Today's Articles for Improvement has gone through many changes.

  • We have modified the process for adding Nominations, which now uses a template/table format and requires only 3 supports for an article to be selected.
  • There is now a Holding Area, where articles are kept for discussion before being selected for a particular date.
  • The TAFI schedule now involves adding 10 articles weekly, chosen from a variety of topics.
  • We now have an Accomplishments page where we will be highlighting our older TAFI articles which have now become quality articles on the Wikipedia.

The Project is almost ready to hit the Main Page, where it will be occupying a section just below "Did you Know" section. Three article from the weekly batch of 7 will be displayed randomly at the main page, the format of which can be seen at the Main Page sandbox. There is also an ongoing discussion at the Main page talk over the final details before we can go forward with the Main Page.

If you have any ideas to discuss with everyone else, please visit the TAFI Talk Page and join in on the ongoing discussions there. You are also invited to add new nominations, and comment and suport on the current ones at the Nominations page. You can also help by helping in the discussions at the Holding Area.

Above all, please do not forget to improve our current Today's Articles for Improvement

Thank you and hoping to have some productive work from you at the Project,

Hello Northamerica1000, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of Falkum, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: We shouldn't delete both Falkum, Norway and Falkum, and the better article name is probably Falkum. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. Eastmain (talkcontribs) 03:17, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

  • Hello Eastmain: I noticed that you tagged Falkum, Norway for speedy deletion, and removed the tag from the Falkum page. The articles duplicate one-another, so both are not needed in the encyclopedia. The speedy deletion criteria doesn't cover article naming conventions to a great degree, but per WP:WIAN, it appears that "Falkum" will suffice. I've removed the speedy deletion tag on the Falkum, Norway article per information at CSD A10, and have redirected the page to Falkum, because the former is a plausible alternate name that people may use in searches. Cheers, Northamerica1000(talk) 03:44, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

DYK nomination for Birmingham (horse)

Hello! Your submission of Birmingham (horse) at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Sorry if I'm showing my lack of knowledge but I have just a couple of very minor queries - great article, though!
I just realised I had put the query note on Tigerboy 1966's talk page, but perhaps should have put it on your talk page as you are the nominator? I've previously always reviewed self noms, so I'm afraid I'm not sure of correct procedure. SagaciousPhil - Chat 14:14, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for Dawei Port Project copyright fixtures. thevikas (talk) 04:36, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

Certainly. After clearing out all of the WP:COPYVIOs, the article needs significant work, if you're interested in working on it. Cheers, Northamerica1000(talk) 04:52, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
