Going through Category:Unincorporated communities in Kentucky and identifying ones with names that indicate they may be false. This is a list of further attention needed; many of these will likely indicate real places; not all will need deletion.
- Fords
- Ford, Kentucky
- Lumber town with power plant per Rennick 2016f. Uncle G (talk) 23:47, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- Laurel Ford, Bell County, Kentucky (if legitimate, should be moved to Laurel Ford, Kentucky)
- Not in Rennick 2016l. Uncle G (talk) 23:34, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- Laurel Ford Road almost crosses Straight Creek. Uncle G (talk) 02:10, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Crossings
- Great Crossing, Kentucky
- Village with postoffice, store, and school that grew up around Johnson's Station per Rennick 2016g also known as Great Buffalo Crossing and The Crossing. Uncle G (talk) 23:26, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- Kidds Crossing, Kentucky
- Not in Rennick 2016k. Uncle G (talk) 23:20, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- Kidds Crossing Road, about 300m further west than the GNIS pin, crosses Kidds Branch. Uncle G (talk) 02:10, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Ponds
Mill Pond, Kentucky- Post office in a general store per Rennick 2016m. Type of mill disputed. Uncle G (talk) 23:02, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- "Mouth of ..."
- "Right/Left fork of ..."
Rennick doesn't have headings for right or left forks of anything; and given how common it is to name very minor streams as right/left-hand forks of the bigger downstream bits that have proper names, this is only reasonable.
- Left Fork of Blackberry, Kentucky
- From aerial photographs this is clearly the course of a left-hand fork of downstream Blackberry Creek, apparently dried up by humans but still traced by the course of Left Fork of Blackberry Road. Rennick's annotated map of Matewan has some marginalia. Uncle G (talk) 03:22, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Right Fork of Long Fork, Kentucky
- From aerial photographs this is indeed the right-hand fork (there is a left-hand one) of a Long Fork stream off Shelby Creek. The populated place appears to be Speight, Kentucky. Rennick's 1979 annotated map of Wheelwright and Rennick's 1954 annotated map of Wheelwright have no relevant marginalia, but do mark a school in Speight by this name, which is likely the source of the GNIS record. Rennick 1990p, p. 7 has the Bailey Branch of Right Fork of Long Fork of Shelby Creek, because that has more than "left" and "right" as its name, but that's in a different location. Uncle G (talk) 03:22, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Right Fork, Kentucky
- This is just plain false. This is Salem Fork on Rennick's annotated map of Cannel City. However, Rennick 2000m, p. 45 has a Right Fork neighbourhood in a "list of communities" which is likely the source of the GNIS record. Uncle G (talk) 03:22, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Stores
- Bryants Store, Kentucky
- Hamlet with post office per Rennick 2016b. Uncle G (talk) 23:57, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- Kidds Store, Kentucky
- "Rural settlement" with post office per Rennick 2016k. Uncle G (talk) 23:20, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- Peytons Store, Kentucky
- Not in Rennick 2016p which only has Peytonsburg and Peytontown. Uncle G (talk) 00:14, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Bing Maps underpin puts Peytons Store about 500m up the road. A Peyton Branch stream and a Peyton branch Road farther still along the road are suggestive. Uncle G (talk) 02:10, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Corners
- Cherry Corner, Kentucky
- "Rural settlement" per Rennick 2016c. Now simply Cherry after post office by that name in 1889. Uncle G (talk) 00:02, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Goffs Corner, Kentucky
- Hamlet per Rennick 2016g. Uncle G (talk) 23:26, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- Station
- Jump Station, Kentucky
- Not in Rennick 2016j. Uncle G (talk) 00:10, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Mentioned with "Hwy 122" in a list on page 13 of a book entitled The Walls of Kentucky. Unclear what the list is. Uncle G (talk) 02:10, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Reynolds Station, Kentucky
- "Small community of homes" also known as Deanfield per Rennick 2016r, both names were also postoffices and railroad stations. Uncle G (talk) 00:34, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Shelby Gap Railroad Station, Kentucky
- Just Shelby Gap and a hamlet with postoffice per Rennick 2016s. Originally named Shelbiana. Uncle G (talk) 00:23, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Spring Station, Kentucky
- Freight station, village, and postoffice per Rennick 2016s. Once headquarters of the Southern Pacific Railroad. Uncle G (talk) 00:23, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Turners Station, Kentucky
- Town with postoffice per Rennick 2016m. Once an incorporated community. Town grew around Spring Hill Depot. Uncle G (talk) 00:28, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Mill
- Lusby's Mill, Kentucky
- Hamlet also known as Cobb's Mill per Rennick 2016l. Post office simply Lusby. Was once an incorporated community. Uncle G (talk) 23:34, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- Muses Mills, Kentucky
- Hamlet with post office per Rennick 2016m. Uncle G (talk) 23:10, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- Prices Mill, Kentucky
- Hamlet with erstwhile postoffice per Rennick 2016p. Uncle G (talk) 00:14, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Ruddels Mills, Kentucky
- Mis-spelling of Ruddells Mills, Kentucky per Rennick 2016r. "rural settlement" once a "busy industrial town". Uncle G (talk) 00:34, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Smith Mills, Kentucky
- Village with postoffice per Rennick 2016s, once named Roalosson's Settlement. Postoffice originally Smith's Mills. Uncle G (talk) 00:23, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- White Mills, Kentucky
- Hamlet with post office per Rennick 2016w. Once owned by President Buchanan's dad. Summer camp. Uncle G (talk) 23:40, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- Star Mills, Kentucky
- Not in Rennick 2016s. Uncle G (talk) 00:23, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- There are Star Mills Eastview Road and Star Mills Road here. Possibly mills next to or on the Nolin River, as aerials appear to show the ruins of a weir. Uncle G (talk) 02:10, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Holmes Mill, Kentucky
- Not in Rennick 2016h. Uncle G (talk) 00:37, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Landing
- Wises Landing, Kentucky
- Site of a controversial 1970s-1990s power plant construction endeavor, working on expanding. Hog Farm Talk 23:31, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- Hamlet with Corn Creek post office per Rennick 2016w. Rennick also has the power plant up to 1979. Uncle G (talk) 23:40, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- Junction
- White Oak Junction, Kentucky
- Settlement originally named White Oak, Junction added when the railway spur arrived, erstwhile post office, per Rennick 2016w. Uncle G (talk) 23:47, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- Stony Fork Junction, Kentucky
- Not in Rennick 2016s. Uncle G (talk) 00:23, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- The river that goes pretty much right through the GNIS pin is Bennetts Fork. The confluence of Bennetts Fork with Stony Fork is about 1km downstream. Google Books reveals that the Stony Fork Coal Company used to have a mine 9 miles to the west of Middlesboro at Stony Fork, and there's a railway junction for a spur at Stony Fork Junction that leads out to it, whose course is visible in aerial photographs and roughly parallels the creek and crosses a couple of roads with "coal" in their names. Uncle G (talk) 02:10, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Flemingsburg Junction, Kentucky
- Rennick 2016f only has Flemingsburg, a "4th class city". Uncle G (talk) 23:47, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- This is about 20km from Flemingsburg and there's no sign of a railway line close. Uncle G (talk) 02:10, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Bardstown Junction, Kentucky
- Junction on railroad built by Bardstown citizens per Rennick 2016b. Small community. Post office once Nelson Junction, later Trunnelton. Uncle G (talk) 23:57, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
