Lintel is a portmanteau of Linux and Intel, referring to the computing platform using Linux as an operating system running on Intel x86 compatible processors. Actually the original development of Linux was for the Intel x86 family, later on it was ported to many other hardware platforms.
Similar terms are Wintel (Windows on Intel) and Mactel (MacOS on Intel).
