Thanks for the advice. I had been thinking about whether it was not sufficiently original. While the text is not a problem, I think the f circle does actually have some originally to it. I might ask at MCQ, I didn't know that existed! Arriva436talk/contribs16:05, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi - great to get your message. I'll have another look at the section on the service 1! I have only used the Mayfield Rd junction as a cyclist, but the no entry sign is certainly still there. Maybe it's being left there just for occasional services like the Xmas tour!!
Cheers, Patrick
Hi Arriva - have made a few additions to the Route 1 page, which I hope make clearer the changes between 1970 and 2001, approaches to renumbering and relation to other services, especially the ferry service.
As for the Mayfield Road traffic lights - yes, both the buses only signs and the (red!) traffic lights are still in place as of this evening. I can only assume these are just being left there to keep future options open, or to allow for diversionary routing - or else to allow for shool only services to run from Mayfield Middle School to which this road gives access. I do not remember the last route to serve Binstead Estate (Route 4) in this direction using this road, and that it went the other way along Mayfield Road towards Haylands. The current route 37 does, but is circular and only goes westerly at this point.
Thanks for that, I see there is now further info on the route 1 article. Thanks also for the information re the Mayfield Road lights, I'd assumed it had been kept because there's no point removing it, and it might need to be used again one day! PS, on talk pages, if you sign by putting ~~~~ at the end of your comment, it puts your username on the end, and then the bots won't come round and do it. Once again thanks for the info, much appreciated. Arriva436talk/contribs20:54, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly let me say i am entirely new at this so i hope you'll be patient with me and forgive me for numerous mistakes i am bound to make!
My main reason for contacting you is that you are heading up the 'WikiProject Optare' (unless they've merged again ;). A while ago now i corrected some flaws in an article on the Optare Delta. While i admit i didn't include sources there were genuine reasons for this; the information was mostly from primary sources and mostly conversations between the designer and Russel Richardson some years later. The information i put up is indeed accurate and is something of an open secret in bus circles (at least certain ones anyway). The only obvious evidence i could produce is a photograph of the original artist's impression of the trolleybus. (Apparently the original is still in the Optare office).
Certainly although i wasn’t able to produce any sources condemning it as “rubbish”(without any evidence to the contrary) as Alzarian16 did clearly shows a lack of research on his part; a simple phone call to numerous people would’ve revealed that it wasn’t rubbish even if it did still leave the article lacking in sources.
Therefore can you please advise me of how to correct this? Whilst its development out of a trolley bus project may be of little relevance, i do think that the explanation of the origins of its "distinctive sloping front window" could be of use to some people?? If only to show that it was designed with the driver in mind (the designer was also a driver).
(talk page stalker) Hi, Alzarian16 here. If I do something wrong, feel free to challenge me directly. I don't think I described the stuff about the trolleybus design as "rubbish", but rather as original research - the rubbish comment referred to the stuff about the Sigma sharing its design. However, describing any good faith addition as rubbish was an over reaction for which I apologise.
Regarding the Trolleybus design, this could be worth including if it could be verified in a reliable published source. Phone calls to individuals wouldn't be enough, as a single person's thoughts aren't considered reliable under our guideline on sources. I tried looking for sources online before I removed the text, but couldn't find anything. Alzarian16 (talk) 13:16, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. As Alzarian16 says, he didn't describe what you had added as rubbish, it was something else he was talking about. Unfortunately, without sources information such as what you added is likely to be removed, even if it is correct. Could you find any sources? Would the photograph of the original design work? Obviously if you're not allowed to publish it then don't!! While the internet doesn't throw anything up, are they any books which could be a source?
I believe that the information is correct. You could add the information and put a cite needed [citation needed]--> next to it, if we agree that this is important information that adds value to the article, which I think it does. The article is quite small at the moment, the rest of it is all sourced. I don't see any harm in adding it for the moment and then trying to find sources. If after a while we don't find any sources, it could be removed again. Any thoughts?
As an aside, I thought I'd better say WikiProject Optare has sort of run its course now. The main aim was to keep everything together while the whole Optare-East Lances-Darwen Group events happened, and to make sure the development in new models was covered, which is has done. Fingers crossed Optare is more stable now. Arriva436talk/contribs14:28, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Arriva - thanks for the updates to this page; I was amazed that no-one had created this county's page so took it upon my humble self (a Londoner living in North Tyneside!)
If you're in a better position to keep it updated, feel free (Surrey's network isn't the easiest to keep track of). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Geordiewomble (talk • contribs) 21:17, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there. No worries about keeping the page updated, I was pleased that someone created the article, it must be a mamoth job starting from stcratch. It's not too hard to keep updated, as Surrey CC have a page on their website detailing any changes, and there's only a couple every so often, though as you might have noticed Surrey CC are doing a review on tendered services, in three stages. The phase 1 changes took effect in August so that took some editing! Phase 2 is this autumn and 3 the next, so then it should all settle down.
Also, as you might have noticed, they're closing a bridge for 27 weeks (at least), so there's some routes on diversion and with temporary timetables. I have used notes, but in red, to highlight this. Do you think it's OK? I'm happy to continue updating the page, as you can probably guess from my user name I know the area well!! Arriva436talk/contribs12:16, 12 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there - you're right, it was a rather large job, not helped by the fact that the timetable section of the SCC site is a bit 'clunky', and the quality of the timetables themselves is variable in quality. I've taken your updates and patched them onto my spreadsheet to keep my notes up to date (very well done for that!)
The red notes - perfect! The only minor things I noticed (and this relates to the on-going 'issues' with the Tyne & Wear page) are: there are a couple of multi-route entries where you haven't specificed which details relate to which route (but that's easily rectified) and, to keep things easy to read, I used a standard 3 'via point' format, whereas you've been a bit more extensive with some (again, not a major issue, it's a question of personal taste). Mind you, seeing as you have over 60 pages on the go (I have a mere 9, with one more in build and entries on a dozen more!), I bow to your superior Wiki knowledge, and hope my database management skills are acceptable! Geordiewomble 17:47, 12 February 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Geordiewomble (talk • contribs)
In case you're wondering, the 'schoolboy error' this individual made on the T&W page is to 'invent' an extra Metro Station! There has never been, nor will there ever be a Metro Station at the Metrocentre - it's a common misconception, I'm sure you've heard it yourself...not that I'm going to tell 'him' what he's done, of course! Geordiewomble 18:15, 12 February 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Geordiewomble (talk • contribs)
Yes, the Surrey CC timetables vary hugely in quality. They used to all be the good ones, presumably professionally made, but (presumably to save money), they are now the "home made" ones which vary in font size, layout, all sorts of dots and dashes! And riddled with errors too... One thing I have noticed is school variations. Arriva have a good idea of putting a number prefix in front of the number of the normal route, to distinguish between the main route. For example, route 34 has route 134 which is a SDO variation once a day. It warrants its own number in the table, but is incorporated in the same timetable at the 34/5 so it's been missed out. I've put it in to the route table now, but I'm going to try and find the others.
I'm glad you liked the red notes. I wouldn't usually bother with diversions, as it's a bit excessive, but as its such a big closure (for 27 weeks), and long diversion, with routes picking up on diversion in completely different places to what they'd usually serve (as well as a new route for the duration), so I thought it needed a mention. Regarding the multi route entries where I've not specified which is which, can you point these out so I can fix them please?
I'll be honest, I didn't notice the three via points thing until last week, by which point it was too late! To be honest though, living here, I know the area, so it's incredibly hard to leave out via points that are equally important to others. I had decided that as long as it fits in the column without starting a new line, it's OK. To be honest, most of the articles I have created were when I was inexperienced, so they're not actually that good! You're table skills are much better than mine, I learnt how to fix the width of the columns from you! The county route articles you've created are definitely the best looking of the lot. I'm thinking of creating an Isle of Wight one on the same basis, keep an eye on User talk:Editor5807 so see my plans!! Arriva436talk/contribs19:30, 12 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the kind remarks - if you think Surrey's timetables are a bit hard to deal with, just have a look at Merseyside's (some of them have three, even four single-journey variants on the same timetable!)
I paid homage to your Red Notes on the complaint page relating to our 'mutual friend' (boy, that was fun to write) - the point I made was that, yes, it was an addition to what I'd originally done, but it was SYMPATHETIC to the basic design parameters, so it looks right and that's what matters here.
No problems with extra via points if it keeps to one line (nice touch!) especially as, as you said, you know the county a bit better than me (I tended to use main towns and villages), and I'm glad to have hepled you with your Wiki learning - after all, you've taught me a bit! (If you want to see an example of how I've used the T&W data in another form, look up "MetroCentre" (Shopping Centre), and check out section 6.2 (6.1 already existed, but I didn't get rid of it).

Hi, Arriva - sorry for not getting back to you, but I've been a bit busy trying to get a new job (no luck so far!)
Anyhoo, you asked for any comments regarding Surrey entries that could be 'tidied up' - here we go:
3 (Arriva) - you have two destinations, but no indication why.
42/44 - you could 'page break'the via points, to keep the format.
50 - you could give each operator a symbol, to confirm what relates to who (and you'd be able to remove the duplicate Horsham Bus Station).
53/63 - the operator could be clearer (are you saying Compass Bus only operates the 63 on a Sunday, Arriva operate it MOn-Sat?) If so, you could add that to the Note.
89/90 - same as 42/44.
460/480 - add route numbers to the froms and via points.
593 - could combine the two Brooklands destinations to say Tue-Fri.
601 - again, more notes to explain the double start and via points.
Other than that, keep up the good work, I know the page is in safe hands!
OK, thanks for that, I'll try and revise it soon, should be easy. I don't think they're all a result of me either which is good!! Route 50 will be the challenge, as even the routes of each operator vary. Arriva436talk/contribs21:58, 10 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there. No, there's not really, the Optare one was created back in 2007 when we were trying to sort out the Optare bus articles to bring them all to the same acceptable standard. The UK bus one was created afterward in 2009. Feel free to swap the infoboxes over and redirect the Optare one to the UK bus one or whatever. Thanks for pointing this out, I hadn't really noticed! frankly, much as I like your work here, I find your signature a little distracting. Perhaps a somewhat smaller size would help, so it doesn't make the line height change to accommodate it. DGG ( talk ) 23:42, 24 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Whilst I don't want to butt in and cause an argument, I thought I should say I've never had that problem. On my screen the signature is the same height as other text and certainly doesn't push the line height up. Editor5807speak23:34, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You were right DGG, that certinally was one hell of a frank message. My signature incorporates superscript text, in the same way that many, many signatures seem to. If you go looking now it won't take long to find plenty of others. In fact, when I first made this signature, I based it on the sig of an admin who was also using superscript text. The numbers used throughout articles to link down to the references also use superscript, and change the line height, but that doesn't seem to be a problem otherwise why would they be allowed on every single article? Nevertheless, I have now amended my signature, which should have fixed the problem as it doesn't change the line height. Has it at your end out of interest? Indeed Alzarian. Charles, I have a few things to say:
Can you please honestly answer this question: Why, out of all the bus route lists on Wikipedia, both in England and around the world, have you only tagged the two articles I edit the most? Surely, if those two aren't notable then none of the others (certainly in England) are either, so you should have tagged every England article for notability concerns? Similarly, by your logic, you should have tagged much for source issues too? As for the answer to the question, obviously it can't be because you've embarrassed yourself by quoting a non-policy at me on another user's talk page, and now want to irritate me, as that would frankly be pathetic. So what is the reason for only tagging those two lists?
When you added the tags to the Surrey article, second time around, and actually gave a reason that time, you said "County council is involved in bus provision and not a secondary source not." For commercial bus services, which make up the majority of bus services around the country, the county council has no control over the service at all, so therefore providing publicity is purely a secondary source. Granted, for routes that do run under contract to the council, there is some involvement, but 1) this doesn't undermine the secondary source nature of the other commercial bus services, 2) providing publicty for a council contract bus route hardly makes the source unreliable, 3) it's a privately-owned bus company separate to the council who runs the route and 4) the section of the county council responsible for the finance and tendering out of bus services is a different section to the part of the council responsible for bus publicity. After all, one is looking after bus timetables, whereas the other requires much more financial expertise and money management. In the same way, would a source from the roads and transport division of the council not be able to be used to describe something about the foster care section? Granted, it's a grey area (personally I think it's OK as is), but the issue's definitely OK because of...
Traveline! As I clearly mentioned in my edit summary ("No less notable than the other hundreds of bus route lists on Wiki. Why single this one out just because I edit it? www.surreycc.gov.uk/buses is your one stop shop secondary source for the entire list, as well as Traveline which is already shown") as well as the council being a reliable secondary source for buses run by privately owned companies, Traveline is another reliable secondary source. It covers every bus route in the county, indeed country, so every bus route is sourced. What more can I say about Traveline, other than how they describe themselves as "formed to provide impartial and comprehensive information about public transport." Impartial, pretty good secondary source, I'd say.
We can now move onto the Isle of Wight then. So, you've sent me this warning message: "Please do not remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to List of bus routes on the Isle of Wight, without resolving the problem that the template refers to, or giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your removal of this template does not appear constructive, and has been reverted." Well, personally, I don't think there is a problem to resolve in the article in the first place. I clearly did give a valid reason for the removal, when I said the user who added it had no credibility in adding it because they'd only added it to two of many similar articles, the very same two I edit most, and with no actual explanation as to why they added it other than "Notability and primary source concerns". This is a valid reason, and clearly explained to the extent I ran out of room in the edit summary and couldn't add that the article does have reliable secondary sources from Traveline. Personally, I don't think my removal of the template was unconstructive, it was your immediate re-adding of them without discussion first which was unconstructive.
Let's consider the reasons for you re-adding the tags to the IOW article: "Article has no in-line refs, no secondary sources." For the inline citations part, is it actually necessary to have a reference for every entry in the list, especially for such a short article? I could ref each entry with the timetable, but that would seem like overkill. Regarding the latter point, that it has no secondary sources. Well, it does clearly have secondary source, as in the references section Traveline South East is given as a reference. So that's that part proved wrong.
What should I be doing to improve these articles in your mind, and why are these the only two problematic ones?
I am too busy with work and stuff to go into details right now but you are quite mistaken in saying these are the only lists I have tagged. I have previously tagged a good many and will no doubt tag more in future. I have also put several lists of non-notable bus routes up for deletion and some of them have been deleted.--Charles (talk) 21:50, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It's still a hell of a coincidence which two articles you tagged at that time, along with no others. I have checked, and you have tagged others, but not the majority. And they're all drive-by taggings really. I noticed some tags were different to others, which I thought was good as it showed you were actually looking at each individual article's concerns, that was until I found that you'd put an original research tag on List of bus routes in Berkshire, which is laughable. How can a list of bus routes that serve a defined area such as a county show any form of OR at all? Berkshire is a place. Fact. Those bus routes run in Berkshire. Fact. No O.R. I then found that on a couple of articles, astonishingly, you'd reverted the addition of an individual route to the table, on the basis that it hadn't been cited. Now really, that's just purposefully being difficult, and much more of a hindrance than a help. If a route does serve a county, it's stupid to remove it from the table saying it's not got a source for that individual route, when the whole table doesn't. So basically, I do wonder what the hell you are doing. I don't care what you've put up for deletion, what's that got to do with anything? Thanks for the help for the above, btw...
