Blocking GoldEmerald
Hey, I noticed you just blocked User:GoldEmerald. User:SilverMichael has the same MO (and is probably the same person). Just a heads up if you want to do the same to him. --Matt 02:32, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- Done.--Chaser - T 03:04, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for blocking Zuldavinci
He was creating articles almost faster than I could speedy-tag them. If you could act on the speedies, I would appreciate it. I think he's just linking to individual pages on his web site, so it's spam. If that is the case, I think a permanent block is in order. Otherwise I might blow out a mouse. :-) Realkyhick 04:30, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I read on the Adopt-a-User page that you might take another person; I don't guess you would adopt me? I'm kinda-sorta new & I just started my first page, but I want to know absolutely everything else I can! Anywho, I will talk to you then. Thanks, bye!

- Super, thanks! As to specifics, I really couldn't give you an answer, I really just want to learn about everything in general, but if I think of something, I will let you know. Thanks again! IamMarkBlake 23:52, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
I noticed that you deleted the above article as nonsense. Please note that the CSD G1 explicitly says that hoaxes are not covered by that criteria. Although this article was a stupid, blatently false hoax, it was, nonetheless a hoax. Dsmdgold 03:11, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- Consider it vandalism, then, as WP:CSD#Non-criteria does. But the person pictured in "Adriel on his entourage of losers" is clearly not the ninth richest person in the world. I knew G1 didn't cover hoaxes, but it does permit us to not waste our time on the obvious cases.--Chaser - T 05:08, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- In that case, then perhaps it would be best to delete as vandalsim rather than as nonsense. Dsmdgold 15:08, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- Indeed. Next time I will use staples instead of paperclips on my TPS report.--Chaser - T 16:58, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- I am assume the you are implying something here, but I am not familiar with that film, could you please explain. Dsmdgold 17:33, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- My point is that this is a really minor issue that never warranted so much attention. If you have a problem with deleting the article, then DRV is the appropriate venue. If you have an issue with people improperly deleting lots of things under the patent nonsense criterion and want that to stop, then that's fine. But as far as I can tell, you're only taking issue with a single deletion summary for an article that should have been deleted anyway and that annoys me. Anyway, it's a great film for anyone who has ever worked in an office. I recommend it.--Chaser - T 17:36, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- I agree that this is a minor issue, and that the article should be deleted. I do, however have an issue with the misuse of the speedy criteria, in particular G1. If you note my recent contributions that this is not an isolated instance of me taking issue with this. I have been on a rather low level campaign against the misuse of the speedy criteria for a few weeks. It would not be low level if I had more time. You can also see from my deleted edits that, alas, many admins disagree with me, but what are windmills for if not tilting? I've never worked in an office, I've always been in the medical world, where we have our own insanity. Dsmdgold 21:26, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
In case your curious
User:Cool-dude tim is a sock of a vandal I call The Hidden Message Vandal and he's been vandalising pages for 3 months. -- Scorpion0422 18:22, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note.--Chaser - T 18:51, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, excellent! I'd like to finally see some admin action on this issue. As Scorpion mentioned, he's been vandalizing for a few months now. Scorp's been logging his edits, and his editing habits, and myself, Scorp and User:Gran2 have been following him around reverting his changes. Sometimes they're legit, most times they're garbage.
- I filed an abuse report at the end of June, but was told by another admin there was nothing we could do about it except to report each IP address and have it blocked. I contacted British Telecom, since I saw no action on the abuse report, but was told they'd need server logs to track down the user. The case number is 12356595. My most recent contact was July 15th, from Marilyn Stephenson on the BT security team (<email removed (spambots)>). -FeralDruid 19:02, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not active in that area. I suggest you contact someone listed at Wikipedia:Abuse_reports#Volunteer_groups and ask for help with the server logs. I'm not sure what's meant by that either. BTW, nothing about an abuse report requires a Wikipedia admin, as far as I can tell.--Chaser - T 22:27, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

I can't do anything about it because the page seems to be gone. As I said to the Irish guy, you've allowed pages for others student newspapers, like The Wabash Commentary. What's the problem?—Preceding unsigned comment added by Some-guy0010 (talk • contribs)

Hi, there was a request for semi protection of this page, you deny it saying there is nothing that can't be blocked with a revert warning. However, when the vandal keeps putting in untrue information and I revert it to the proper info, whats to stop me getting warned for a revert war. This same user has altered the article a number of times. There have been comments on the articles talk page and the user has neither the courtesy nor decency to post there, instead only doing repeated changes. Douglasnicol 17:01, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- Since it was a single IP that wasn't communicating with anyone, I've blocked that IP until whoever it is begins talking. Thanks for the note. I admit I didn't look closely enough to see if the IP was static or dynamic when I handled the protection request.--Chaser - T 23:47, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
Infinite monkeys theorem DRV
When someone tells blatant falsehoods -- and continues to do so when they they've been corrected -- it's pretty much incumbent upon someone to point that out. The guy can't even tell the truth about something as simple and objective has how much time has elapsed, so yes, I'm going to point that out. HE's in the hole, he's the one who needs to stop his digging. --Calton | Talk 03:11, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
Candidate Question
Possibly, but not to my knowledge. I have browsed Wikipedia Incident Noticeboards and similar places out of curiosity and to learn things. I haven't seen anything like an admin making death/legal threats though I've seen a few cases that seemed similar. I came up with the question after going through the candidate's first RfA and felt it was an important question to bring forth in this case. -WarthogDemon 05:08, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
- I hope that was a fair question to ask. It's my first question I ever asked a candidate for adminship. Hope it's not poorly worded or over-extreme. -WarthogDemon 05:16, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Eleemosynary
Hi. I noticed that you removed my report of Eleemosynary blanking comments from his talk page, with an edit message that this does not constitute vandalism. If it isn't, how do you suggest I proceed with the dispute resolution process, since it's impossible for me to attempt to open a dialogue with someone who repeatedly deletes legitimate comments from his talk page? Thanks. --Hiddekel 00:29, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
- Removing messages from one's talk page isn't a policy violation. You can diff that the messages were placed on the talk page in any future reports. People remove 3rr warnings all the time, for example, but the important part is that they were placed, and can be relocated in the page history.--Chaser - T 00:42, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
- I see. In that case, I should be able to move forward with the process regardless of whether this individual responds or deletes, then. Will do. Thanks for the clarification. --Hiddekel 00:54, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
- I should note, however, that archiving is the preferred method for all talk page content. The relevant guide is at Wikipedia:User_page#Ownership_and_editing_of_pages_in_the_user_space. I am happy to help anyone properly archive a user talk page.--Chaser - T 02:02, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Dear Chaser, would you be so kind as to look at this article and its talk page; I'm concerned that Eyrian may be on the verge of dragging me into an edit war, which I'd like to avoid, so please let us know what you think. I also think, although I really hope this is not the case, that he may be doing this as some kind of retaliation for Wikipedia_talk:What_Wikipedia_is_not#Popular_culture. MP protect
Is there a policy that we can protect the main page FA now? There used to be major disputes over it. What about these days?Rlevse 00:08, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Matt
I endorse your block as a preventative block. I think it is quite possible he is telling the truth, however, personally, I wouldn't like to unblock without a checkuser or a general consensus. The edit summaries the first sock was using just 'sounded' like Matt. Though it is possible that was deliberate if it was someone trying to get in in trouble. A checkuser has been filed, I'd wait until that comes back. Sarah 04:36, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- Yep, you could do that if you want to but before unblocking, you might want to get him to retract his (absurd) accusations against Slim, Shell, Michael and Elonka. Sarah 04:44, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

- Yeah, sometimes it's clear why people leave, and sometimes that's one loose end they don't tie up on the way out their door. If someone is so fed up with Wikipedia that they feel it's time to go, I can't blame them for not explaining why they left (even if it might be helpful to know sometimes).--Chaser - T 03:36, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Question
Could you please look at this and let me know what you think? Thanks! Sincerely, --Le Grand Roi des CitrouillesTally-ho! 19:52, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
- I read the AN thread. I find myself agreeing with much of what's there. Though I understand your desire to add some essays to the standard welcome, I think neutrality and even the boilerplate message is usually the best tact.--Chaser - T 21:59, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
- Do you think it would be okay to keep any of the particular essays I indicated in my list? Also, what do you make of my discussion with Eyrian on my and his talk pages? I think I am remaining civil with him, but since he returned to Wikipedia, it seems as if his anti-certain article efforts has gone into overdrive and that he's entering into multiple conflicts with other users. See in addition to his and my talk pages, [10], [11], [12], as well as the entire [13]. I initially tried to avoid him, then in an effort to make peace, I tried improving some of the articles he created, but it seems that there is some disruptive discussions going on stemming from disagreement over his efforts to blanket remove any kind of "in popular culture" stuff and I can't help but feel the posting about me at AN was more about our disagreements than anything else. I am not sure if my efforts to discuss things with him civily are getting anywhere, if I should ignore him, or what. As you can tell, my discussions with pretty much everyone else lately has been civil and constructive, even in disagreements, so I am bit worried here, because I am working hard to make the most of my contributions to this site and feel as if there is no one user who I just can't please and who will look for anything he can on me. Or am I reading into it? Thanks and sorry to bother you about all of this stuff. Sincerely, --Le Grand Roi des CitrouillesTally-ho! 22:06, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

- You need to find reliable sources establishing the film's notability first. That was the crux of the previous debate.--Chaser - T 05:21, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
Ok, then why does this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocktronica have a stub and Zeitgeist, (A infinitly more significant and notorious piece of entertainment/social commentary/cyberpunk news) doesnt have one. - I forgot to add Wikipedia:Verifiability. As to your question about other articles, see WP:INN. Perhaps you should make a deletion nomination for Rocktronica--I'd probably support deleting that.--Chaser - T 05:28, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
Fair enough. I care little about the deletion of the genre, its more about the hypocrisy of this site. I understand the site has its own set of "laws" or "guidelines" which (frankly) are neither here nor there when it comes to certain subjects of mass importance. I am new to this and respect your position, but I also have to say the fact Zeitgeist is considered unVerifiable is an outrage. Thank you for your time though and I will not pester you further, I just ask you do whats right on the matter of this film, for the sake of others. Parasite Twin 05:34, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi you might want to see the second report I filed; [15] the user has been disruptive for a while now.The last block was for incivility and edit warring plus he violated the 3RR again a 24 hour block is really short, and the block on The Myotis was not really appropriate since he was reverting vandalism: [16]. He is obviously a Turkish nationalist he removes everything on the Armenian Genocide, and this gives a good impression [17] --Vonones 23:11, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
- I've unblocked, but won't be getting further involved. It's difficult to strike the balance between being fair to parties whose behavior or motivations were better and not favoring one side in these nasty ethnic disputes. Sometimes I fail to strike that balance.--Chaser - T 00:21, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Removing Tags
Just out of curiosity, could there be any valid reasons why any of those tags should not be on those respective articles? -WarthogDemon 03:24, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
- If they don't apply, but in the ones I checked they did (this is a typical problem with articles about fiction).--Chaser - T 03:30, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
- I see. Hope I did a good job. I've never reverted (heck I've never EDITED) that fast in my life! :P -WarthogDemon 03:32, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
- You did fine. I think this is well-covered by the vandalism policy's section on tag vandalism, so everything was in-line with policy. I suppose you could try negotiating with someone over the removal of tags, but this particular editor wasn't very interested. If you ever get into a situation where someone is revert-warring with you, it's often easier just to let the articles sit until the editor gets blocked, even if what is happening is clearly vandalism. If it's at all ambiguous, you might end up improperly blocked for 3rr by an admin that hasn't fully informed himself. And that always sucks for all involved.--Chaser - T 03:40, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Argusto Emfazie deleted article
Could you move Argusto Emfazie into my user space? It may be a record hoax, so I would like to have it with the full history. Leibniz 16:27, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
- Userfied to User:Leibniz/Argusto Emfazie. I added a note (intended for passersby rather than you) about it being a hoax.--Chaser - T 17:45, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

I put it on the bad image list. But I still can't find it. It doesn't look like a template. -- tariqabjotu 00:08, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
- Ah... I forgot Recent changes doesn't show minor edits by default. -- tariqabjotu 00:17, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
Help for User talk:AnneStark
Kudos to you for figuring that out! It never occurred to me that the user might have backed a new note onto an old time stamp. I've been keeping an eye on her page since I left her a note requesting clarification earlier this afternoon. :) I can go remove my question with a clear conscience. --Moonriddengirl 02:16, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Something that needs your attention ASAP
Dear Chaser, could you please check out this thread and offer any advice or thoughts possible? I am deeply insulted by Rob's post for the reasons indicated in my response, because it ignores all of the good faith edits I have been making and concerns an extreme minority percentage of my most recent edits. I have greatly appreciated your efforts to mentor me so far, and I would greatly appreciate your efforts here as well. Sincerely, --Le Grand Roi des CitrouillesTally-ho! 23:14, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
