typo in the user page message
[edit]The message the bot is putting on user pages starts "An automated process has detectedthat when you recently edited"... obviously, a minor matter, but the next time you're delving into things, might as well put the space between detected and that. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 15:53, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
- Fixed, thanks! --R'n'B (call me Russ) 16:06, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
Incorrect notification
[edit]The page Georgia received an automated message about a large number of dablinks even though almost all of them correctly pointed to the dabpage. The proper title for the page is Georgia and not Georgia (disambiguation). I attempted to "fix" the problem by adding (disambiguation) to various redirects before noticing that I created a bunch of double redirects. Helpful Raccoon (talk) 19:40, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- The bot flagged that page because a user had added an incorrect link to Georgia on Template:Peabody & Stearns, which then got transcluded into roughly 100 articles that use that template. Once the error was detected, another user quite promptly fixed it, so nothing else needs to be done. The bot would have removed the template the next time it runs (tonight), except it seems that someone else has done so manually. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 21:24, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- Got it. Apologies for misinterpreting the situation. Helpful Raccoon (talk) 22:22, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
Disambiguation pages not updating
[edit]The list of disambiguation pages hasn't updated in 34 hours, and the fix lists for all entries are empty. Cg2916 (talk) 16:06, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
- I'm aware. Unfortunately, the scripts that generate these lists depend on the (shared) Toolforge database servers, and every once in a while these servers get overloaded or have some other issue that prevents updates from occurring on schedule. It's outside of our control. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 13:58, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
- @R'n'B: looks like this is stuck again. [1] has no links and it says "Replication lag is 3 days 14 hours 10 minutes." Natg 19 (talk) 00:25, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
Seems like it shouldn't consider new links to disambiguation pages that are also marked with "disambiguation needed" template
[edit]I just got a message from this bot, regarding this change I recently made. I got the message because part of my change was adding links for a few previously unlinked things like towns and people. Upon preview, I saw that two of them (Savigny and Domfront) were to disambiguation pages. So, I tried to figure out which Savigny and which Domfront were being referred to, but I was unable to do so. So, before submitting my changes, I added {{Disambiguation needed}} markers for both of them.
That seems to me to be exactly the purpose of the "Disambiguation needed" template. So these hits by the bot seem like false positives to me. Perhaps it should be coded to not operate on disambiguation links that are marked with "disambiguation needed"? -Rwv37 (talk) 22:02, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
Bot seems to confuses trascluded navbox info
[edit]The links are all correct in the nest nav box but they are still coming back as disambiguation Links.

- It sometimes takes time for the database that the bot uses to catch up to template edits. Solution is a null edit of the page containing the "phantom" links. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 18:33, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
- When I looked at the open source code, after writing, I assumed it was just a delay but wanted to make certain in case there might be an emerging glitch.
- Thank you for the speedy response and solution.

Nihongo template
[edit]There seems to be an interaction between the Nihongo template which uses Lua code.
If the English text parameter is bolded with 5 apostrophe as opposed to the proper 3, it will register a disambiguation link to Over Your Dead Body. There is no link, the tool seems to simply pick it up. Without diving into the template code or testing in sandbox I won't know more.
It's an interesting interaction. I'm gonna take care of the ones I am aware of. Please let me know if you find out how the addition of extra apostrophe in the template is registering as a false disambiguation link.
Edit: I misspoke: it isn't the template that is causing it, seems that using 5 apostrophes for bolding of words will cause this. So this can be alleviated with either a small change to the bot or simply writing a bot that changes any matching set of 5 apostrophes to a matching set of 3 apostrophes. RCSCott91 (talk) 18:45, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- Seems the apostrophes can be accumulative like the example on article, Yatterman (film), where two apostrophe were placed inside the template around a parameter and 3 were placed outside the template. RCSCott91 (talk) 19:19, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- I will check if it is actually due to Kuime redirect having some type of interaction with it redirecting to the Disambiguation article for "over your dead body" coupled with the R language template. If that proves the case I will request creation of two separate redirects, one for Kuime the film and the other for the book. RCSCott91 (talk) 20:01, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- Test came back positive. Something about the interaction between that redirect page for Kuime. Going further, when checking the film article, all the articles that showed linking to the Disambiguation page are now showing a false link to the film article "over your dead body".
- Reverted both test edits to check my hypothesis. I apologize for the wordiness because I realize that this error turns out to have nothing to do with this bot, this bot only helped to discover it.
- Will attempt to summarize and post on R language template talk page. Then investigate if any other disambiguation links are actually false positives created by R language template. RCSCott91 (talk) 20:15, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- Checked R language template, interaction is not causing it. But now that I am behind my desktop, I think I see the common denominator. All this film articles share a the Takashi Miike template. The template is not the issue as it is piped correctly. I don't write in LUA so I don't know why 5 apostrophes would cause linking to a disambiguation page over the proper link. But I will change the redirect link in Kuime redirect page with a note in its talk page. I will then add a link to "over your dead body (film)" article that links to the Japanese book article for those looking for it. RCSCott91 (talk) 21:44, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
