Welcome to Wikipedia and Wikiproject Medicine

Welcome to Wikipedia from Wikiproject Medicine (also known as WPMED).

We're a group of editors who strive to improve the quality of medical articles here on Wikipedia. One of our members has noticed that you are interested in editing medical articles; it's great to have a new interested editor on board. In your wiki-voyages, a few things that may be relevant to editing Wikipedia articles are:

  • Thanks for coming aboard! We always appreciate a new editor. Feel free to leave us a message at any time on our talk page. If you are interested in joining the project yourself, there is a participant list where you can sign up. Please leave a message on the WPMED talk page if you have any problems, suggestions, would like review of an article, need suggestions for articles to edit, or would like some collaboration when editing!
  • Sourcing of medical and health-related content on Wikipedia is guided by our medical sourcing guidelines, commonly referred to as MEDRS. These guidelines typically requires recent secondary sources to support information; its application is further explained here. Primary sources (case studies, case reports, research studies) are rarely used, especially if the primary sources are produced by the organisation or individual who is promoting a claim.
  • Wikipedia is a kingdom full of a wide variety of editors with different interests, skills, and knowledge. We all manage to get along through a lot of discussion that happens under the scenes and through the bold, edit, discuss editing cycle. If you encounter any problems, you can discuss it on an article's talk page or post a message on the WPMED talk page.

Feel free to drop a note on my talk page if you have any problems. I wish you all the best on your wiki voyages! Wiki CRUK John (talk) 09:44, 30 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

hi everyone, I am really enjoying the wiki experience so far. Can someone tell me how to get more involved with the various projects in Wikipedia? Also, I'd appreciate if I could get any kind of membership authorization like an id or certificate just to show to my college/institution. It'd be helpful to recruit more people! I also came to know of a certain number of edits beyond which one can be a proper "wiki editor". Can someone tell me about it?

Thanks a lot!

Most WikiProjects have "Article alerts" pages (like Wikipedia:WikiProject Medicine/Article alerts) where ongoing discussions about articles in the project's scope are listed. Also, we have Wikipedia:Community portal with links to other places for collaboration, and Wikipedia:Village pump for discussions about various aspects of Wikipedia itself. Unfortunately, we don't have certificates, however, you can show your college your contribution list, which is a solid proof of your work here. It'd also be helpful to tell people interested in contributing about The Wikipedia Adventure (And try it out yourself, too!). There isn't a hard-and-fast threshold of the edit count required to be a "proper editor", either. What matters is true experience and quality contributions, not mere numbers. From Wikipedia:Edit count, "Edit counts do not necessarily reflect the value of a user's contributions to the Wikipedia project." Happy contributing! Hi everyone! Facing a little problem in editing. In the wikipedia article on "Conduct disorder" I have added reference number 46 but there seems to be a problem with the ???date. I am not sure of what it is. Can someone help me out?

That issue was fixed by David Biddulph. The citation templates are quite flexible, but not everything a human would recognize as a date will do. WP:MOSDATE has information on acceptable date formats. Huon (talk) 19:02, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Reference number 26 on the article on "Clozapine" is asking for title. How do I resolve that? thanks.

That was fixed by MadScientistX11 who added the relevant bibliographical details. There is also a dedicated {{cite pmid}} template that relies on a bot to fetch the information; maybe that's what you intended to use? Huon (talk) 19:02, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks everyone for responding to my questions. I am enjoying editing Wikipedia so far! Please let me know what other further opportunities Wikipedia offers. Can I contribute articles etc. as well?

Thanks Darylgolden. I have added my name to some lists. Please let me know if there are specific potential areas I can work on.

Raysujoy8, there is no need of using {{Help me}} template while informing a particular editor. Instead of {{Help me}} template you can use {{ping}} or {{reply}} template. Happy Contributing! Cheers! — CutestPenguinHangout 17:57, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
