Women's rights in Ukraine
[edit]Hi there! I made some small changes to the page about women's wrights and I will like to include some photos and photo montages. Do you have idea for any free photos that might be placed on the page? I would assist you in making those photos if you have time ... http://www.istpravda.com.ua/articles/2010/12/29/11244/ ... Here on this page, there are interesting pictures (Milena Rudnycka), but I am not sure which would licenses suit them. I would also put only free pictures from: Inna Bohoslovska, Hanna Herman, Iryna Akimova, Irina Vannikova and other interesting women politicians ... Please help me with Wikipedia uploading of those photos if you can, thanks! --SeikoEn (talk) 07:40, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Hello!
Yes I do know how stop the deletion of these file. We need to get permission from "Батьківщина" to tell wikimedia commons that the pictures on the Батьківщина website are licenced under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported Licence (In short: you are free to distribute and modify the file as long as you attribute http://www.byut.com.ua/). How to do this is explained on Wikimedia Commons here in English and here in Russian.
(As far as I can tell) we need to get "Батьківщина" to send a letter witch looks a lot like letter A (see picture below) and letter B (see picture, in this case "Батьківщина" is more likely to write back in Ukrainian I suppose).
-
Letter A
-
Letter B

If you click on this picture of random people you can see an approved license below the picture next to the words OTRS
I have known this for a while but never got round to do it because of my poor grasp of Ukrainian (as you probably noticed by now and my Russian is even worse) I did not know if I could get to the right people in the parties organization, in fact I see only phone numbers on there website I don't know if Мартиненко Лілія Вікторівна in Kyiv speaks English but for me it would take ages to explain what I wanted from her... I don't know if you have any contacts within the party, if so it would be handy in this case.

- If I can help with with photo editing, I will do it without a problem, but my Ukrainian and Russian are only for basic communication. These permits were always a problem ... If you manage to upload the new photos I will be glad to be involved in creating new more visual sites, especially when it comes to women: in politics, sport, education or any other field. Mary-Yuly you saw my job and you know what I'm talking about. Best regrads! :-) --SeikoEn (talk) 09:00, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Tiakhnybok
[edit]Please see my comment: [1].Faustian (talk) 22:28, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
- About Tiagnybok.
- (machine translation:) During the "presidential elections-2010" — the "main slogan of Tyahnybok" was : "Against All" and "Tymoshenko = Yanukovych" (Tyagnibok participated in the campaign against Tymoshenko). During "the voting day" — Tyagnibok said : "stay at home, not go for elections"!!! **Owing to the campaign "Against all" (led by Yanukovych, together with Yushchenko, Tiahnybok, Gritsenko, Yatsenyuk, Tyhipko) — Yanukovych took office of the President.
- Tyagnibok, Yatsenyuk, Yushchenko are "helpers of Yanukovych"; they are patriots "only paying lip". The only "truly anti-Yanukovskoyu force" is Yulia Tymoshenko. Tyahnybok, Yatseniuk, Yushchenko (since the presidential elections-2010) are named the "Against all's".
--Vles1 (talk) 19:20, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
- Where did you get that information about Tyahnybok's slogan? I never saw one like that. As far as I know everyone tries to discredit that guy. Ones say he's a Nazi, others - pro-Yanukovych. As far as I follow with Tyahnybok's blog, Svoboda's website, and his interviews on the Ukrainian TV, he never talked about to vote against all, or Tymoshenko, or whatever nonsense you are talking about. That just does not make any sense. I remember how in 1990s everyone talked about Rukh and Vyacheslav Chornovil that they are Nazis as well who will kill all the Jews in Ukraine. A very similar trend I track today as well only after another guy. Why do not you give some confirmed sources for your claims before talking badly about other people.Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 16:12, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

The problem is that also in academic circles the notion that "Yanu and friends" are helping "Tyahny" and Svoboda]] to "destroy" "Tymo" and Batkivschyna, as can be seen here. You can read in the book Virtual Politics - Faking Democracy in the Post-Soviet World (by Andrew Wilson, Yale University Press, 2005, ISBN 0-300-09545-7 (round page 190 for instance)) that this is not unthinkable. The Liberal Democratic Party of Russia did also get help from Jeltsin's people in getting seats in the Duma in the 1990's. I'm not saying that this is done now, but Ukrainian politics are dirtier and more criminal then Swedish politics. Unfortunatly you have to keep that in mind.. — Mariah-Yulia • Talk to me! 22:07, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

The Ukraine
[edit]Once again, the preference of politicians and civil servants take precedence over everything on Wikipedia. See [3].
The people who run the BBC, Chicken Noodle News, and The Times would not know whether the first letter of Dnepropetrovsk was 'A' or 'D' (and yes I have seen that mistake on both English and American websites). The people who send them feeds from Kiev just want to fit in with what the Kiev government wants, and probably 'speak' English as a fifth language (so how would they know what is right or wrong?).
Both variants "The Ukraine" and "Ukraine" are acceptable English. Maybe next year, the Kiev government will decide to drop the "Den" from Den Haag - will you be enforcing this on Dutch Wikipedia? I guess you will.--Toddy1 (talk) 18:09, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
- This has nothing to do with politics... I understand your frustrating with (Ukrainian) politicians but they don't decide what are the names which are most frequently used to refer to a subject in English-language reliable sources. Since almost 100% of all English-language reliable sources written since Ukrainian independence use "Ukraine" instead of "the Ukraine" I think using "the Ukraine" is unacceptable English... Publications like BBC world, CNN, The Times have phased out using "the Ukraine" so "Ukraine" has become British English (we are not in 1972 any-more things do change, maybe "the Ukraine" will make a comeback). Weather they know what there talking about (I have great doubts about that too) is a different subject but has nothing to do with naming policies (if BBC world, CNN, The Times are not considered reliable sources on wikipedia we might as well quit with it altogether...)
- In my private live I refer to Kyiv as Kyiv, but in wikipedia I do use Kiev so I do not understand why I'm being singled out here... I am not trying to change anything in Ukraine in a direction Oleh Tyahnybok wants to... (you probably call him Oleg Tiahnibok ) nor do I edit wikipedia with a Svobado POV. — Mariah-Yulia • Talk to me! 19:25, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

- Toddy1, I will back Mariah-Yulia here. While "the" still occurs in English before "Ukraine", news media, academic and geographical sources have phased it out. Unlike "Kiev", which is still the predominate usage, "the Ukraine" is notably on the decline. Even in Wikipedia, selecting to keep one instance of "the Ukraine" where the majority of other usages have been changed to simply "Ukraine" seems rather pointless. --Taivo (talk) 20:45, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
