It's unfortunate but I can't yet post the article on "The Chinese in Latin America and the Caribbean." as one of the review is in fact a summary by one of the editors, Walton Look Lai. Hopefully another book review will fall into my hands (as it did for Language Attitudes Among Arabic-French Bilinguals in Morocco). Please keep in mind the request is still resolved. "Reassessing Mirdrakvandi": Proc. Third European Conference of Iranian Studies

I am preparing a new article for which I would like to see the following conference paper:

  • Bivar, A. D. H. (25 May 1998), "Reassessing Mirdrakvandi: Mithraic echoes in the 20th century", in Sims-Williams (ed.), Proceedings of the Third European Conference of Iranian Studies, Beiträge zur Iranistik, ISBN 9783895000706 {{citation}}: |editor1-first= missing |editor1-last= (help)

Google gives a lot of hits for this, but they seem to all be just mentions of the paper. The Proceedings seems to be available on-line, but behind a paywall (German National Library?). I need only Bivar's paper. ~ J. Johnson (JJ) (talk) 19:23, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

California historical news search (1980s-1990s) on Planet Pizza

[edit]
Resolved

Hi, I'd like to find sources on Planet Pizza, a Cupertino, California-based pizza chain that competed with Chuck E. Cheez from 1981 until 1998 (bankruptcy) and 1999 (out of business). Does someone have access to Los Angeles Times historical news, or other California historical news sources that could help? I have already searched WSJ and NYT historical news, and recent news coverage, per my comments in an ongoing AFD. This relates to article Planet Pizza and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Planet Pizza. It would help either to develop the article or help conclude the AFD, if California historic sources could be searched.

I haven't used this noticeboard / request board before, hope this request is done properly. I don't believe this is any kind of inappropriate canvassing; i am just on this rare occasion looking for specialized research help that i can't do myself. My gut tells me there is plenty of past coverage; I sorta think i read about it myself when living in California during part of that timeframe. I participate in a lot of AFDs, do not expect to be asking questions here about others.

I'll watch here and learn more about this request board. Seems like a good service! Thanks in advance for any assistance. --doncram 21:47, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Doncram: I've searched ProQuest (including the L.A. Times beginning in 1985), Newspaper Archive, Highbeam, and Newsbank, and the lack of news coverage for "Planet Pizza" in California in the period from 1981 to 1999 is truly impressive. Although there was a report in the Marysville Yuba City Appeal Democrat of a judgment debtor abstract out of Sutter County Municipal Court for $356.25 on behalf of Quick Stop and Planet Pizza. Veterinary Parasitology

Resolved

Veterinary parasitology, 1981, Volume 9. I am looking for the article that specifically contains page 108 (p.108 has an interesting table on it, and I want to see the entire article associated with that table). I do not have the article title, nor author information (Google's snippit view would give me no more info)

Veterinary Parasitology, Volume 9, Issue 2, December 1981, Pages 107–110 Nichol, S.; Ball, S. J.; Snow, K. R. (1981). "Prevalence of intestinal parasites in feral cats in some urban areas of England". Veterinary Parasitology. 9 (2): 107–10. doi:10.1016/0304-4017(81)90028-5. PMID 7201187.

I think the Carpenter review is the only one I need. I have access to a lot of journals, and I've found a decent number of reviews of Black Scare, but for some reason some Wiley publications aren't available through my institution – I appreciate the thought though. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 00:56, 29 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Edward Said lookup

Resolved

Said, Edward W. & Hitchens, Christopher (eds) Blaming the Victims: spurious scholarship and the Palestinian Question. London: Verso (2001) ISBN 1-85984-340-9 page 199.

Please share the page or tell me what it says about Transjordan. Used in Palestine#cite ref-Said 61-0. --trespassers william (talk) 22:53, 5 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Danny lost: "Whereas Palestinian Arabs (and other Arabs as well) accepted a de facto definition of Palestine as the territory so carved by the British Mandate in which the specific Palestinian aspiration for a territorial state took concrete form – an acceptance now enshrined in Articles 1 and 2 of the Palestinian National Charter – the Zionist/Israeli definition is more flexible and broader." That summary of the argument put forward in previous pages seems to be the relevant sentence; the gist of the page is that Israelis/Zionists tend to think Palestine includes the Transjordan (which allows them to argue that the state of Jordan is a Palestinian state) but the definition used by Palestinians/Arabs (and the PNC) maps on to the borders of the British Mandate. (The citation in the Palestine article isn't strictly accurate either; page 199 is part of the chapter by Ibrahim Abu-Lughod entitled "Territorially-based Nationalism and the Politics of Negation" [pp. 193–206].) – Arms & Hearts (talk) 14:35, 11 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@WhisperToMe: Eskew, Newman, Piliawsky, Rosenberg. I hope the formatting isn't too much of a nuisance. I may or may not be looking for some pages from The Mark of the Beast by Mark S. Roberts (ISBN 9781557534743, OCLC 175289907) for use in the article John H. Van Evrie. I can see pages 74–78 on Google Books but it looks like Van Evrie is also mentioned on page 79, which I'm missing, and possibly elsewhere (I'm also lacking the index). I'd like to be able to see page 79 and any other pages mentioning Van Evrie, but if anyone's able to confirm that there are none and/or that page 79 is just a trivial mention that'd be great too. Hopefully that's not too vague – thanks. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 00:10, 23 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Try different national versions of Google Books. I can see page 79 at books.google.co.jp. It has a comparison of van Evrie with other books. There is also a footnote on p192. Send me email if you can't see them. Zerotalk 08:49, 23 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, apparently there is a retrospective review of Super Mario Bros. in issue 122 of Edge magazine that gave the game a 10/10 rating. The issue was released around 2003. Unfortunately I don't have more information on this, so I'd be happy if somebody could provide a scan of the review. Thanks to this, we could finally cite a source for the statement here; furthermore I wish to use this retrospective review as a source for the German article to Super Mario Bros.

Yeah. Not much hope for this request, considering both its sketchy nature and the lack of concrete information I have. I am working on a full rewrite of fringe theory, and there is an article in this journal that -- I think -- has some discussion of what constitutes fringe theories relative to what is already a fringe field (parapsychology). I have a page number from within that article (page 370). What I don't have is a title, an author, or the complete page range. I also lack the specific issue number that includes this page, but I believe it to be 4.

Needless to say, nothing I have access to indexes this, or maintains copies. Odds aren't in my favor here, but it never hurts to ask. Squeamish Ossifrage (talk) 16:00, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
