[edit]Akin to Proto-Mongolic *sem-ci (“inner fat, fat on liver”), Proto-Tungusic *semesik (“inner fat”). (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?) Looking at the compared word in Mongolic, can be from *sem- + *-iŕ.
