[edit]From Proto-Celtic *skok-, from Proto-Indo-European *skek- (“to move quickly, jump”) (see Proto-Germanic *skehaną, Proto-Slavic *skokъ).[1] Cognate with Breton skog (“impact”), diskogellañ (“to make wobble or shift”), Old Irish scuichid (“stirs, shifts”).
