Lunched Out

Slapped my face as hard as I could, did not feel a single thing, and gifted my body to the endless yawning void that lurks within. Ashamed of libidinal currents, but the heart wants what it wants, and when you’re sleeping, I hear restless chatter of conclusions I’ve already reached. I don’t wish anymore.

Maybelline, trazodone,“give us a smile”. You’d think that I’d take the hint after a while, but no-one is innocent. We have names and addresses. The city is beautiful, even on the coldest nights, but spectres are visible just at the edges of sight. When the show’s over you follow me out, in the back of a taxi, not watching my mouth, but you’ll never remember it. The morning erases this. I painted my nails in that pillar box red and I told you the secrets I held in my head, but it doesn’t mean much to you. It’s honestly nothing. Ha ha.

Cinema Vérité

Tearing my hair out with the wax strips, with the tweezers, with my hands. These pretty mouths chew our new hopes, and spit familiar demands. Intimidated, your laugh changes, sounding so dismissive. Pretending like I didn’t notice, crush my face in your hand. Just suck it up, buttercup, enjoy the mess while you can. She studied painting at the art school, I enrolled at Fugue State. I’m embarrassed by my own heart.

Standing O
03:37
|

I awoke to jagged falling static behind the window like a wall of fetid ashes, and every finger is clicking and clicking and clicking, When you perform your symbolic death, what do you want? A standing ovation? A startled silence? My blind forgiveness? My blood in a locket? An empty gesture? A kiss on the cheek? I apologise for the cathexis, can’t play it cool when diagnosed incandescent. We shake our cryptic plumage to an anxious rhythm. When you expose your hollow chest, what do you want? A standing ovation?… And I awoke to the same old boring static behind my eyelids like a fog of burning plastic, and every hand is clapping and clapping and clapping, When you perform your symbolic death, what do you want? A standing ovation?
