Can this not be achieved with transformKey?

No. TransformKey gets applied to every individual key, so [‘foo’:{‘bar’:’bar’}] will get transformKey called with “foo” and then “bar”. Thus, a transformKey of (f)=>`__${f}` gives us __foo.__bar, but we don’t have a generalized way of determining that we’re at the “top level”. It can be done, but it’s gross. transformPrefix allows us to do it for the TOP LEVEL only: transformPrefix:(f,d)=>`baz${d}${f}`) means we’d get baz.foo.bar; if we have the same transformKey as above WITH this we get “baz.__foo.__bar”.
