Heat Crimes strike again with super strong flavours derived from the fiery Roma wedding music of Kavala, in northern Greece, eastern Macedonia. Instrumental, microtonal keyboard showmanship meets original vocals thru 10 properly sexy rounds of trilling melodies and knees-up rhythms shot from the hip in a style that's rudely adjacent to the sort of flair found on Islam Chipsy’s incendiary Cairo street rave or Rizan Sa’id’s dabke backdrops for Omar Souleyman. In other words: pure heat.

The type of gear that makes neck hairs stand on end, ‘KorgMusic2024DemoEL-HELL-EΛ’ is respectfully faithful to the Roma wedding sound without falling into pale pastiche, and still somehow injected with its own crafty wit thru an east-west prism of dare-to-differ imagination. Flaming fingertips light mesmerising lines of extended melody - no samples - variously underlined with an acidic croak on lead joint ‘Pharaoh Online Club’, and prompting AK-spray salutes in the air on ’SoloKorg_Style31’, along with thee sleaziest afterhours steez in ’Severnie Zvezdi.’

But no doubt some of the best bits are spiced with autotune vox by figures resembling the AI sprites of Christos Chondropoulos’ ‘Relics’ as much as the near-mythical Bootee, as with Antzela Karra on a searing ’ΑΠΟΨΕ ΦΩΤΙΑ ΜΟΥ ΛΕΙΠΕΙC’, or with Lale Pishmari’s melismatic plumes on the Burial-meets-Roma stylings of ‘Lali Lale’ - which frankly slays us when she corpses, giggles, a few mins in. If you’ve been wowed by any of Heat Crimes’ gems by The Ephemeron Loop, Mariam Rezaei, CLF, Christos, or that genius Aeson Zervas album that dropped and disappeared in a few hours a few months back, this one’s another absolute no brainer. Best label out there right now?!

This album is truly one of my favorite as it makes me think about the act of forgetting something when you don't want to. You can't control it and makes you feel miserable. This truly makes me enjoy the memories I can remember because there will be a point in time where it will be gone. tenr3d
