Totally Entranced is a reflective reverie for tragic romantics and the best KEELEY record yet.
Opener "Dead On Arrival" inhabits a ghostly, glacial place, peering through the frosted windowpane of a ferry terminal building on a spring night in 1988 as it seeks to reach beyond the impossible and make the eternal mystery of a life-altering moment visible.
Track 2 "Forever's Where You Are" stretches even further into the heart of darkness, its violent venom a scathing riposte to the savage stupidity and senseless depravity of a mindless primate, an arch-enemy of art and robotic despot whose bottomless weakness is ever-evident from his hiding behind the legal trapeze acts of a soulless system that protects killers and demonises rape and murder victims.
Track 3 "Scratches On Your Face" is a paean to her pain and a testament to the brilliant bravery that fuelled her ferocious fight that fateful night. Sonically spacious with galactic guitars, it's a space-rock epic that tells the torturous truths at the core of the story.
Title track "Totally Entranced" is our mournful masterpiece. A profound prayer, its sonic fog a fugue state. The second track from the EP to feature the gilded gifts of special guest Morgan Fisher (Mott the Hoople, Queen), it is also the first song I've co-written with KEELEY producer Alan Maguire.
