Memoria

(feriae die August 27)

Flavius Arcadius, in Hispania natus, ab anno 395 usque ad mortem anno 408 partibus orientalibus Imperii Romani imperavit. Erat filius natu maior Imperatoris Theodosii I et Aeliae Flacillae, frater Honorii eo tempore Imperatoris partibus occidentalibus. A patre Augustus nominatus est anno 393.

Imperante Arcadio Sanctus Iohannes Chrysostomus, patriarcha Constantinopolitanus, ab Aelia Eudoxia uxore depositus est et Roma a Visigothis capta est. Rufinus praefectus praetorio in Imperium Romanum dominatus est donec a Stilichone trucidatus est; post Rufinum Eutropius consiliarius ab Aelia Eudoxia depositus est; ultimus Anthemius praefectus praetorio fines orientales murumque Constantinopolitanum corroborat, Christianitatem proseruit.

Theodosio mortuo Imperium numquam rediunctum est; Arcadius ergo primus Imperator Constantinopolitanorum dicitur. Eo regnante Constantinopolis elevata, Roma deiecta est, consilium semper mutatum, Imperium fragile.
