Corpus Corporum author ID

edit

Can you find any information about Florentius (Q105757911)? The Corpus Corporum author ID does not provide any unique matches.

I ask because of the namesake Florentius (Q130754130), author of an agricultural textbook (3rd century). Kolja21 (talk) 05:41, 2 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Kolja21: they are surely different, thanks for reporting; I merged the first into Florentius (Q1001940): Roman praetorian prefect and consul, which had a wrong GND that I removed. BTW, duplicate GND in Florentius de Faxolis (Q112175102): Italian priest and music theorist. Thanks! Epìdosis 08:47, 2 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks again! (I've reported the duplicate already.) What strikes me is GND 136117325:
  • Florentius Radewynsz (Florentius von Genf), Bischof von Genf, ca. -1. H. 6. Jh. Source: NDB/ADB-online.
I suspect GND 136117325 is a mix of two persons. What do you think? Kolja21 (talk) 16:10, 2 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Kolja21: I surely agree, it is an evident mix of two persons. Epìdosis 16:13, 2 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the confirmation. I will file a report. --Kolja21 (talk) 16:26, 2 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

@PersOrga: Q130778504 was a duplicate of Q130775628 and I merged them; I have created Q130907522 for the homonym. --Epìdosis 13:07, 5 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi Epìdosis! Do you remember why you set this to obsolete? I think it's a good data. Thanks Pallor (talk) 10:33, 8 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Pallor:, I don't remember and effectively now it looks good; I have de-deprecated it. Thanks! Epìdosis 05:58, 9 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
OK, thank you! Pallor (talk) 08:24, 9 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

John Andrews, cartographer and engraver

edit

LCAuth n50023953 is a conflation of:

This error is widespread: SBN TO0V497095: Andrews, John <1736-1809>, geografo incisore. --Kolja21 (talk) 14:05, 15 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Kolja21: thanks for reporting me; SBN is about the second, the cartographer; fixed in SBN (visible next Tuesday) and moved now to the pertinent item in Wikidata. Epìdosis 15:29, 15 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Bernardino Olivieri (1802-1821)

edit

Bernardino Olivieri (Q104099147): Italian cartographer and engraver (1770?-1832).

  • SBN/ICCU CUBV120986: Cartografo e incisore italiano. Nato nel 1802, morto nel 1821.

Are life dates and flourish swapped here? There are three GNDs:

  • GND 1055594299, e1795 (= fl. 1795)
    • Created for Vedute degli avanzi dei monumenti antichi delle due Sicilie. Roma: Calcografia camerale, 1794
  • GND 1145185975, fl. 1804-1830
  • GND 115754228X, engraver; source: WBIS, ABI, II 423,391

@Accurimbono: FYI. --Kolja21 (talk) 10:56, 18 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Kolja21: very interesting case, thanks for reporting.
Premise: records from CUB (about which we write a lot in https://bibliothecae.unibo.it/article/view/15078) have usually been sent to VIAF despite not containing any information; so many records from CUB were enriched from Wikidata this year (cf. https://www.iccu.sbn.it/it/SBN/catalogazione-e-manutenzione-del-catalogo-sbn/progetti-di-implementazione-dei-dati-dellindice-sbn/arricchimento-dei-dati-di-authority-di-sbn-attraverso-il-confronto-e-lo-scambio-con-wikidata-/ + File:Authority file di SBN e Wikidata - Wikidata Days Bologna 2024.pdf and File:Authority file di SBN e Wikidata - Wikidata Days Bologna 2024.webm); this enrichment has surely introduced a few mistakes in SBN, like in this case.
So, let's explain the error:
  1. CUBV120986 was created with no description in 1998, with only one bibliographic record connected, this (http://id.sbn.it/bid/CUB0492050: a juridical work published in 1908);
  2. then someone attached to it a second, wrong, bibliographic record, this (http://id.sbn.it/bid/RL10002726: clearly by our engraver);
  3. then CUBV120986 was sent to VIAF, that clusterized it according to the second bibliographic record, in the main cluster of the engraver (https://viaf.org/viaf/64354201/);
  4. since ICCU imports ISNI IDs in SBN records on the basis of ISNI, then CUBV120986 obtained the ISNI regarding the engraver (https://isni.org/isni/0000000066350266)
  5. then @Bargioni: and I created a new MnM catalog for SBN (https://mix-n-match.toolforge.org/#/catalog/5076); many of its entries were matched by ISNI (see the entry of CUBV120986, https://mix-n-match.toolforge.org/#/entry/132810430, containing ISNI 0000000066350266), so also CUBV120986 was added to the item of the engraver (Bernardino Olivieri (Q104099147): Italian cartographer and engraver (1770?-1832))
  6. previously, the bot of MnM had misinterpreted the data of BAV (https://mix-n-match.toolforge.org/#/entry/96162501) transforming "f. 1802-1821" meaning "fl. 1802-1821" into simply "1802-1821"
  7. so, when we enriched CUBV120986 from Q104099147 (as explained by the note "Informazioni da Wikidata 01.07.2023-31.03.2024 wikidata.org/wiki/Q104099147"), the wrong dates 1802-1821 entered into it from Wikidata
Mainly two mistakes (2 by a cataloger in SBN and 6 by the bot of MnM) caused all the others (3-5 and 7).
Now let's go to the solution (note: as always, edits in SBN visible on Tuesday):
  1. http://id.sbn.it/bid/CUBV120986 cleaned and moved to a new item (Bernardo Olivieri (Q131278200): Italian jurist (fl. 1908))
  2. Bernardino Olivieri (Q104099147): Italian cartographer and engraver (1770?-1832) fixed with correct dates taken from a recent authoritative publication https://www.tabedizioni.it/web/content/350609
  3. Bernardino Olivieri (Q104099147): Italian cartographer and engraver (1770?-1832) has now the two correct SBN IDs, http://id.sbn.it/bid/RMLV075783 as author/engraver and http://id.sbn.it/bid/MILV177413 as publisher; both cleaned
  4. the three GNDs are all for Bernardino Olivieri (Q104099147): Italian cartographer and engraver (1770?-1832), which also has two AKL; the aforementioned publication demonstrates it's the same person

Matlin and no end in sight

There are still items from 2021 that Matlin created with IDs for different persons:

Can you check if there is a pattern (Mix'n'match #1273431) and then delete the conflated item Q108587032? --Kolja21 (talk) 11:16, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Melchior Bocksberger and Hans Bocksberger the Younger

edit

Hello, I think this merge should not have been done. Newer research separates a Melchior Bocksberger and a Hans Bocksberger the Younger who might be cousins. See for example: "Aus seiner Werkstatt gingen sein Sohn, Hans Bocksberger d. J., und eventuell auch dessen Cousin (?) Melchior Bocksberger hervor. Die beiden Letzteren gewinnen in dieser Untersuchung an Profil: Noch Saurs Allgemeines Künstlerlexikon [1] benennt beide als ein und dieselbe Person!"[1]. Apparently the name "Johannes Melchior Bocksberger" is already a conflation and we should probably not use it as a label for any item.

I had not seen that Melchior Bocksberger (Q1175652) is the product of a merge and now I have created a new Melchior Bocksberger (Q131293447). Maybe the merge should be reverted and then the new Melchior Bocksberger (Q131293447) merged into the item for Melchior? If you don't feel like looking into it, no problem, I can figure out myself. If you feel like helping to untangle all the conflation identifiers etc. even better. Grazie mille in anticipo, --Marsupium (talk) 11:55, 20 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Marsupium:! The issue seems very complex and I'm unsure to fully understand the differences between the two artists; I have cleaned a few of https://mix-n-match.toolforge.org/?#/search/Q1175652 but more needs to be done. I have also unmerged Hans Bocksberger the Younger (Q41256160): painter and woodcutter, ca. 1530-after 1583 and Melchior Bocksberger (Q1175652): no description, and I have cleaned the termbox so that it can be set again with higher precision; you can merge Melchior Bocksberger (Q131293447): no description where it belongs. I leave you further improvements; thanks in advance! Epìdosis 12:12, 20 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks a lot! I have improved the items a bit further. They still need some love, but the situation is at least better than before now I think. Best, --Marsupium (talk) 12:29, 20 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
FYI: We had this discussion in 2023. Three members of the Salzburg painter family called "Melchior Bocksberger", see de:Diskussion:Melchior Bocksberger. --Kolja21 (talk) 14:59, 20 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

HOW IT CAN BE

edit

https://it.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Lingua_arvanitica&action=history

Some IP correctly replaced LATIN/CYRILLIC Jj with GREEK YOT in GREEK text. Some months ago, reckless administrator treated it as vandalism and reverted it. Today, other IP repaired it again. I wonder why TRUSTED users like ADMINISTRATORS are spoiling quality of WIKIPEDIA on guise of vandalism fighting? Do they NOT know what are UNICODE CONFUSABLES which are looking identically, but are belonging to different alphabets? I expect some reprimand against such behavior perpetrators. 201.91.248.67 12:00, 24 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi! I agree that this edit was correct (for ϳ is different from j) and that the undo was a mistake (FYI @Titore:). I think now the article is correct. Epìdosis 13:01, 24 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hey Epìdosis, thanks for notifying me. I do remember checking some sources before reverting it. They did't fully convince me, so I reverted it as a precaution. Yot has been one of the targets of LTA Wikinger for ages, as you can see from its article history and talk. That edit likely came from one of their globally blocked range. That said, I trust your judgment, so I'm fine with with it. Titore (talk) 21:19, 24 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Titore:, thanks very much for the explanation; I vaguely remember now some issues with yot and effectively now I find my comment in that talk page; yes, I think that the edit in this case was correct, yot has a separate Unicode character and using it is more correct than using "j", although the two characters are nearly impossible to distinguish graphically. If needed, of course you can contact me in the future (also directly on it.wikipedia). Buona serata, Epìdosis 21:26, 24 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Blocked range contains not only vandals, now it was honest editor there. 188.125.169.235 18:36, 25 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

edit

I saw... i see nothing againt this help page. Unless it's about formatting references if they belong to external databases. If so, then this is a norm, usage, dead rule on WD. You have to wait until a bot fixes it (like here https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q106785805&diff=prev&oldid=2247072445). 94.40.72.241 17:43, 26 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I know @DifoolBot: is fixing them; but I referred mainly to the fact that Help:Sources clearly requires to use retrieved (P813) for webpages, which is absent in those references; it is basically useless to say that a group of webpages states something without knowing when they stated it; and it is especially useless if there are better sources, also cited with retrieved (P813). And also the reference contains a clear imprecision, i.e. it attributes to BNF the year-precision date while it states the day-precision date. I think all these reasons justify the removal.
