Categorization

[edit]

Hi. Well, if you don't like my way of categorization then do it your own way but please dont leave pages uncategorized. Uncategorized pages it's a mess. Thank you in advance. --Base (talk) 23:27, 7 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello Base, Sorry, I do not want to offend you, but all pages that need categorisation have a category, and all pages which do not need a category don't have one. There is absolutely no need to categorize every page. Uncategorized pages aren't a mess, it becomes a mess when people start to add categories while they do not understand the navigational structure of this group of pages. And please consider, this group of pages aren't unrelated freely, but are subpages, working pages, which support the mother page. This isn't Wikipedia of Commons where every article or file needs a category. Besides that the category was incorrect. And please realize, I am very much experienced in categorisation, I maintain the category tree on several wiki's, I am not just doing something. I publish this newsletter for some time now and I am fully aware of the categorisation. Greetings - Romaine (talk) 16:17, 8 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

This Month in GLAM

[edit]

Hi Romaine. Do you need any help getting the Dec 'This Month in GLAM' published? I noticed it's running a little late and would love to help if needed. 68.194.44.162 18:40, 10 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Getting the newsletter published is not the issue. The for me most consuming time is to ask everyone to write for it, as a lot of GLAM organizers often forget to write a story. I am going to publish this edition now. But if you are willing to help contact the writers in all the countries, I would be very happy and gives me some air to breath. Greetings - Romaine (talk) 16:26, 11 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

this month in GLAM — question

[edit]

Hey Romaine,
I'm contacting you as one of the editors of This Month in GLAM. I submitted a piece of news (about this) we'd like to have published in the next issue through e-mail, but I never got an acknowledgement of it and I'm worried something is wrong. Do you know anything about it? Thanks! --ESM (talk) 09:52, 6 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello ESM, The newsletter is written by Wikimedians who are active with working with GLAMs or follow it. They write themselves by starting in the GLAM/Newsletter/Newsroom and select their country and add their text there. Romaine (talk) 07:58, 7 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks much for great support for the newsletter

[edit]

Hi Romaine, thank you so much for your great support for helping in drafting the report on Gueriilla GLAM. I am so glad that it finally went in such short time. Kudos to you and all other friends there who are tirelessly publishing the newsletter. I am looking forward to collaborate and work more with you all. --Psubhashish (talk) 05:04, 11 December 2015 (UTC) ː)Reply

thanks for the continuing work, and thanks. i tend to follow the wikipedia / twitter school of sentence + link, and need to include more exposition. and i would have gotten to this month sooner, if not for the wikiconference north america monopolizing all my attention. This Month in GLAM from Ghana

[edit]

Hi Romaine, I have just written an article for the new letter in relation to Ghana. I created the page myself and what you to check if everything is fine. I will be on standby for your advice and suggestions on how to make this better. Thanks --Flixtey (talk) 00:05, 9 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi Flixtey, Thank you for contributing! Yes, everything is fine. The artcle will be included in next edition of This Month in GLAM. This month in GLAM from Macedonia

[edit]

Hi, Romaine! We would like to inform you that we have written the report for October which is covering the exhibition of photographs from Brazil. You can read it on this link [1]. We are sorry that we are late and we promise that we well be more accurate in the future. Best regards. - Македонец (talk) 08:15, 9 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi Македонец, Thank you for writing the report! The newsletter is scheduled to be published at the 7th of each month. The latest edition of the newsletter was a little bit late and published very early in the morning of 9 November. For that reason I would like to suggest that we add the current report to next month's edition of This Month in GLAM. Would that be okay? Romaine (talk) 17:36, 10 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Brazil-Belgium

[edit]

Hello! I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to check on the interest of WM-Belgium on a potential partnership around a GLAM initiative we're currently negotiating. I had a meeting today with the founder of Belgian Club, a project to collect information and images on the influence of Belgians in Brazil. Our idea is to basically work with this Club to improve content on the cultural bonds between Brazil and Belgium. I believe we might find a way of establishing a connection here. I hope this sounds interesting. Talk soon! --Joalpe (talk) 00:16, 12 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Joalpe, Sure, I think a partnership can be possible. Depends of course on what will come out of it. Greetings - Romaine (talk) 07:23, 12 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
Well... The idea is basically to improve content on the connection between Brazil and Belgium. We will upload hundreds of art images of Belgian artists who have lived or worked in Brazil. It'd be nice to see if it is possible to upload possible artwork from them that is in Belgium. We will also work on key entries, especially painters. Will you be on Wikimania? We can discuss this there... --Joalpe (talk) 23:47, 12 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I will be at Wikimania. See you then there! :-) Romaine (talk) 09:45, 13 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi -- me again. We are slowly preparing the new initiative --hopefully we'll find a way to have our communities collaborate on this! Here is the link. Talk soon. --Joalpe (talk) 00:42, 27 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Education Newsletter is ready!

[edit]

Dear Romaine, I have published the 9th Issue of Education Newsletter, Please help in distributing it. Thanks in advance -- Saileshpat 06:58, 8 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Saileshpat, Thank you for your message! I just sent out the newsletter. Apparently something changed in the organisation somehow...
With Vahid we were in the middle of a transformation process to improve the navigation and some functionalities for the newsletter. I am sorry to say, but just copying the the About page is not an improvement. I do not know how the organisation of the newsletter is since the recent changes, but I hope we can collaborate on improvements. If you plan to take it over for the coming editions as well, it might be handy to have a Hangout call to talk about the distribution process and future improvements. Greetings - Romaine (talk) 01:24, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hi Saileshpat, My previous message gave no ping. Romaine (talk) 01:25, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Romaine:, Thanks for sending out the newsletter. I just joined the Education team yesterday and wasn't aware of the transformation process, maybe we can discuss it this week. And about the about page, I found that it is on Meta and has no navigation links to bring back to Outreach Wiki that's why I copied it to here. I will write an email to you and let me know if you're available for the call. --Saileshpat (talk) 06:16, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

New at editing the GLAM newsletter

[edit]

Hello,

Upon Sandra's suggestion that Switzerland participates to the GLAM newsletter, I have made my first attempt at adding something to it. I was wondering if you could have an eye at what I wrote and let me know if it falls within what is expected?

Thanks for your help!

--Flor WMCH (talk) 08:35, 2 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Flor WMCH, Sorry for the delay, illness on my side.
The page you linked is perfectly in line what we expect. It will be part of the upcoming edition of the newsletter, hopefully to be published tonight. Greetings - Romaine (talk) 06:02, 8 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
No problem, thanks for the feedback, and glad that you are better.--Flor WMCH (talk) 10:16, 12 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

GLAM-Newsletter Wikidata Question

[edit]

Hi Romaine,

I have a contribution about Wiki Education's Wikidata program that I would like to make to the October newsletter. I reached out to Andy, but I thought I would reach out to you too. When I click on the Wikidata section to contribute a submission, it just leads me back to the general submissions page with the list of countries. Would you be able to recommend how I can share our update? Here is a link to the update I wrote. Thanks so much for your help! Will (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:57, 7 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Editaton/Prachatice_2

[edit]

Hi Romaine! Happy Christmas! I have a question: we forgot to write a report for GLAM Newsletter on the second, this time the international editorial in Prachatice, which took place in November. Does it make sense to write this report a month later? --Gampe (talk) 17:29, 26 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Gampe, Yes please, it does not have to be at the end of the month in what an event/collaboration took place, it can also be a month, two months or three months later. Greetings - Romaine (talk) 22:57, 26 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Romaine

[edit]

Just notice the recent edition GLAM Outreach edition. Is there a way to add my report this month yet? Regards, Sturm (talk) 12:22, 9 April 2020 (UTC)?Reply

Hi Sturm, Thanks for reaching out! Users can write new newsletter entries until the newsletter gets published and is sent out. Yesterday morning the newsletter from March was published, so writing for the March edition is no longer possible. You are welcome to start writing for the April edition. The easiest way to start is by going to GLAM/Newsletter/Newsroom and clicking in the box of your country on the blue button with Start article. (If the one for your country already was started, the blue button disappears, but then you can still edit and expand it.)
The newsletter is sent out once a month between the 7th and 10th of each month. In the newsletter of a certain month you are invited to write about what took place in collaboration with cultural institutions (and also with other organisations are welcome too). A report in a certain months does not need to be only about that month, it is perfectly fine to write about earlier activities as well. It is up to you to decide.
Be welcome to share any stories! Romaine (talk) 00:09, 10 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Dura lex, sed lex. Lol. Ok, my fault, anyway. See u in April. ;) Regards, Sturm (talk) 01:40, 10 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Adding event to calendar

[edit]

Hello Romaine,

I do need your help. Try as I may, I do not seem able to add events to the calendar. The interface and how to navigate it bogs me...any resource I can refer to for help? Thanks in advance...AKibombo (AfLIA) (talk) 18:00, 6 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi AKibombo (AfLIA), Let me try to guide you in adding an event on the calendar.
First getting there: there are two options. The first one is to navigate there through the This Month in GLAM newsletter ((example). Be aware that the newsletter inserts the actual calendar. To get to the actual calender, click in the blue bar on "view". The you get to the actual calendar page, example: GLAM/Calendar/January 2021.
Another way to navigate to the calender is by going there through going to GLAM, clicking there on Calendar. Also there the current month is inserted, so click here in the blue bar on view or in the table below on the right month.
Then adding a new event. Click edit, look up the day of the event. In the case of today 14 January, look up the '''14''', and add your event just before the </div> in that same line.
If you have any questions, just let me know. If you want to be sure you did it right, I am happy to have a look. Greetings - Romaine (talk) 15:54, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

How we will see unregistered users

[edit]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

History of Botany (1530-1860)

[edit]

nice job digitizing the book. here it is at Internet Archive [2], on commons commons:File:History of botany (Sachs; Garnsey).djvu, and at Index:History_of_botany_(Sachs;_Garnsey).djvu, let me know if you want me to push completion. cheers. Slowking4 (talk) 01:42, 10 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Slowking4, I am not sure what you ask, but feel free to push for completion. :-) Romaine (talk) 01:47, 10 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
nice articles. i noticed that you uploaded single page scans to commons, which are less useful than a multipage pdf, that IAuploader produces. i will go add wikisource links to the articles. we have a little completion backlog, but you may have pushed these works to the top of the backlog. --Slowking4 (talk) 02:01, 10 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi Slowking4, Normally the university makes a scan of the title page and scans of images in the book, then I receive them to upload the files. Without knowing it this time they made a full scan of the book. Due circumstances I only saw this an hour before the publication session with the university, so I quickly uploaded them. Would be great to have also the Wikisource pages complete! Romaine (talk) 14:25, 10 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
PS: It might be good to talk some moment about handy formats for Wikisource, but this week is not a good week for that. Romaine (talk) 14:26, 10 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
it's all good, no harm done. if they are interested in more scanning, or a talk about scanning / transcription on wikisource, user:Vigernon or I could brief them. --Slowking4 (talk) 14:50, 10 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

This Month in GLAM again

[edit]

Please change the syntax of the newsletter, do not juse table in table, because it forces (hidden) LintErrors in all projekts. It ist easy to avoid such errors. GLAM/Newsletter

old syntax =

{| style="width:100%;"
| valign="top" align="center" style="border:1px gray solid; padding:1em;" |
{| align="center"|-
|}
|}

new syntax

<div style="border:1px gray solid; padding:1em;">
{| class="centered"|}
</div>

Maybe it is currently only for devellopping, but it is generally not useful to nest tables within tables just to generate a specific layout. See also your tal page has such an error. Lómelinde (talk) 13:54, 27 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Romaine, we do know each other personally, though I'm not sure if I was ever introduced formally so that you remember my name ... hehe. Anyways, my colleague wrote a few 'This month in GLAM Germany reports' for 2024 and we would kindly ask you to integrate them into the 'Single'-onepager if possible and not much hassle.
