For compatibility with older browsers, it can also translate from SockJS. Clients communicate using your API contract. Pushpin is a server-side implementation detail. An existing real-time API can be migrated to or away from Pushpin without breaking clients. Since Pushpin is a proxy server, the backend can be written in any language.
