Shillong: Shillong: Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, who guard the 443 km stretch of the Indo-Bangla border that Meghalaya shares with the neighbouring country, have apprehended two infiltrators from Bangladesh, according to a statement issued by the BSF office on Friday.
"Acting on a specific tip-off, on Nov 26, troops of the 22nd Battalion, BSF Meghalaya, in a joint operation with local police, apprehended two Bangladeshi nationals," a spokesperson at the Meghalaya Frontier Headquarters of the BSF said.
The apprehended Bangladeshi infiltrators were identified as 23-year-old Taharul Islam from Chapainawabganj district and 30-year-old Mohammed Sayed from Rajshahi district of Bangladesh.
Both Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended by the BSF near the bordering area of West Garo Hills district.
"During questioning, both revealed that they had crossed into India via the border in Murshidabad, West Bengal, approximately six months ago. They subsequently travelled to Chennai, where they worked as masons at a construction site," the BSF spokesperson revealed.
An FIR was lodged, and both Bangladeshi infiltrators were handed over to Dalu Police Station for further legal action, the BSF added.
